When in P or N revs at bout 750 and everythings perfect.

When I put into R or D revs drop to 550 and everything is fine except theirs a sputtering noise coming from the engine now.

Anyone know what im talking about? thanks.

Mine does the same thing!! Does the car shudder? I have been told mine is due to worn engine mounts causing things to shake at low revs!

Let me know what you find out!

No thats because every second mitsu auto is buggy, replacing engine mounts will help it a little but the vibration just tears them apart in another few thousand km unfortunatly.

If you repack your engine mounts will urethane it will work alot better because the poly compound is much tougher than the factory mounts

Its also around 20 dollars a mount compared to 200 :D

I can transfer my guide on how to do this if you like?

My car vibrates when in gear, but not that bad.

I have duel fuel, and on petrol it barly even shakes, on gas it does just a little.

But thats not what im talking about, its the 4cyl turbo charade.

If you can post that guide on the mounts would be good also :)

Check that you dont have any vacuum leaks, thats what i suspect will be the cause. Is it carbi or EFI?

I replaced all the vacum hoses not long ago as I did have a real dodgy one that was causing my idle to drop and rise constantly.

The changing of the hoses fixed this but the sputtering noise is still there.

Is it safe to pull of the vacum hoses testing them one by one to see what effect it has on the car at idle?
If so ill just pull each hose off one at a time and see what effects they have, if its the hoses causing this sputtering then i should be able to work out which one is causing the problem.

How many vacum hoses are there on 4cyl?

not sure, my 2nd gen is a V6 and i havent spent much time working on 2nd gen astrons. try and nip u the intake manifold nuts just to make sure its not that.

u wont hurt it just pulling one off at a time and seeing if its the suspect hose.

"try and nip u the intake manifold nuts just to make sure its not that."

That bit didnt make sense to me, not sure what you mean by that. Could you rephrase it.

Im going to go out now and test the hoses.

check the manifold bolts/nuts to make sure there is no vacuum leak there. also give the idle bypass screw a few turns and idle it up and see what happens.
