Because mitsubishi is a sinking ship in Australia.. And the last thing they need is bad press..

the bad press of a recall didnt seem to slow the sales of the FPV typhoon that was recalled after about 1 week on sale due to popping clutches

Probably because its aimed at a select target audience (ie not many) aswell as it being a fanboy type car..

yeah granted, but both ford and holden have had alot of recalls and it hasnt seemed to affect their sales in the slightest. Also i havent heard anything on the news or radio in regard to this, indicating that MMAL is doing a very good job of keeping it quiet... i dont think it will effect sales much at all personally, but as with all things with regard to the 380, only time will tell

There are hundreds of recalls involving cars every year, most are just minor problems. Only the biggies that get into the media and then they make a huge fuss about it.

yeah usually the media only make a fuss when its tens of thousands of cars, because mitsubishi havent even sold 2000 380's yet clearly its not a "large scale" recall so the media dont care too much
dont forget that the VT commodore was plagued with power steering problems for the first 2 years it was on sale and they had a number of "hush hush" recalls within the first year the car was on sale, yet the VT-VZ series commodore went on to be the most successful generation of australian built cars EVER

Sucks cos it's so soon after the release of the car, but I guess it won't affect too many people and I don't consider it all that major.
Definitely doesn't help MMAL's rep though.

I don't think many people know about it. I don't think Mitsubishi's rep will be effected at all. They caught it early, if a few fule lines burst or something and blew up some cars then yeah the rep would be rooted but i don't se any problem wat so ever. Every car built from today onwards will be make without the problem so it sould be all good.

Well...if you really think about it....Mitsu have shot themselves in the foot by staking thier future on a 1 large car......it is a known fact large car sales are falling due to fuel prices - and I do agree with wheels report on how bland the interior is.......but the main problem is.....it's bloody front wheel drive!!!!!, they would really be doing themselves a favour if they would at least introduce some RWD card in thier line......I know many many people who wouldnt touch a FWD, they really needed to broaden the market share! - most people prefer RWD for heavy towing and such......

I am sick of this too.
Mitsu is a Japanese company, with not a lot of money for huge re-development of the chassis and engines, to suit RWD. Australia is about the last market in the Western world where we still make outdated RWD large sedans. The rest of the world tuned into the advantages, lower cost of FWD manufacture. Get used to it. Most customers who buy Camrys, Accords, Preludes and Avalons wouldn't have the foggiest that the car is FWD.
Not everyone tows a frikin horse float, boat or caravan. Most only tow a trailer to the rubbish tip! ..

i think he is just pointing out the view that a significant proportion have. Unfortunately a lot of the people that tow or buy family cars beleive that rwd is superior to fwd.

give the guy a break..he's just making a point...i agree with him.i have a magna and i love it.best car i have ever has and i have had some of the best/most successfull cars ever made.(previous car include.180sx sr20det manual with 321Hpatw..gsr turbo lancer with 287hp at all fours)
not that we are always aiming for a younger crowd but most young guys want rwd.known fact.thats why they dont like the magna...im young and most guys dont want them cos of their rep(not due to bad quality)..they only got it cos its (a)mums car..(b)not rwd,
not that we all want fast 1/4mile times but most on here do..rwd is better for that.
magna sales speak for them selve's dwindeling sales have seen it dumped..and now i believe MMAL are screwed cos now they have left it too late to fix and dumping their hope on a totally new model never seen here before.pfft good luck...i hope they can do it but i bet they dont
i wish mitsi did what nissan did with thir gtr..how good woudl it be to have a awd then pull a fuse so the bugger can be rwd...danm..that would be the sh@t
trust me i bet if the magna was RWD it would sell better.
BTW this post was not a hate one these are just my opintions..i love my magna.

do some reaserch before posting you dill! The magna was an EXTREEMLY good selling car from 1985-2001! For that entire period it was either leading the sales in its class, or was atleast close to the top! and it was FWD that whole time! the "dwindeling sales" where a result of the financial instability of mitsubishi japan (and hence people thinking they where going to go bankrupt) and the fact that generally people didnt like the look of the TL, it had absolutely NOTHING to do with it being FWD!
FFS people this has been brought up and argued about 50,000,000 times already its time to build a mutha ****en bridge and get OVER IT!!
and this is coming from someone who likes RWD!!!!

Sorry guys but for HEAVY towing (as was stated), you wouldn't be using a commodore or falcon either.

Any way back on subject.....I've had a quick look through this and other threads and can't see where anyone has posted about the drama with the RHF door glass.
Dealers are supposed to stop delivery on all 380 until the glass can be checked with a special light (can't be seen with the naked eye) coz some of them can smash in when the door is closed. Not Mitsubishis fault, is the glass manufacturer.
Has anyone else heard this and can shead more light ?

At least someone saw where I was coming from! - I love the Magna's, Verada's - I am happy to live with the FWD so I can have the pleasure of saying I own one of the finest cars on the road - But my point was, I could name probably 20 - 30 people i know who wouldnt touch a FWD - I wasnt picking on Mitsu - this carries onto other FWD cars, like the Camry - top car aslo, but FWD doesnt suit everyone!
And on another point, getting off topic - this is a forum, people are entilted to thier own opinion, and it doesnt give others the right to shoot people down in flames if thier opinion differs from yours, if you didnt like what I posted, tough!, live with it, im sure I will, and those who feel noone has a right to make thier point if it doesnt match thier opinion, well i think they are the ones with a problem!

You make no point. It doesn't matter.
