hi all, i've got a TJ advance, bought some new plugs for the front bank, had a go at taking the old plugs out tonight, but they are sooooo tight, and wont budge. i've given it a real good go, but they aren't moving...would it cause any problems if i sprayed a bit of wd-40 down there to loosen them up, or would it f**k up the engine???...
also, how the heck do i get to the rear bank of plugs...i read somewhere that you have to take the manifold out.. is it hard to do, any chances that i could stuff it up big time??..
if i can't do it, i'm gonna have to take it to a workshop!!!
help..
cheers

I dont thing WD40 will get down around the thread.. Did you do it while engine is hot or cold and are you turning clock wise or anti clock wise to undo..??

Yeah if your engine is hot let it cool right down as things expand with heat remember.. all u need to do is crack the seal then ur right.. :D

The rear bank is not hard at all to do, just take off all the nessacary parts on the manifold then undo the bolts holind it on and lift it off

Hi,
If you cannot get it off with the tools from such places as SuperCheap Auto I suggest getting a socket wrench. I bought a tool and try'd to turn it, I could almost snap the tool thats how tight they were, so I asked my neighbour and he had the wrench, came off alot easier with that "far out they were on tight!"
haha
good luck with it
p.s its advised to do when car is cold, however if its hot it will not make a difference on how loose the plugs are.

You can borrow mine if you want. I am in WA and free now from my research. PM me, else can go and buy them. its worth it!
YES, if I am thinking you are using those stupid lousy spark plug twisters....those with the T handle. Goodness of luck! I broke mine and stupid socket stuck in it. took me 30 mins to get it out. Bought a proper set of Spark Plug wrench and socket and came off in seconds!
I have both sizes, the larger and smaller ones.
Oh yeah...I am not sure if you still have my details.
Have fun!
and i am sure i am turning it the right way..(anticlock wise that is !! :-) )
my tech/metalwork teacher told me this one: Lefty-Loosy, Righty-Tighty :bowrofl:

thanks for all your help guys
good news.. had my nutrigrain this morning... and a strong cup of coffee... gave it another
go... still tight as ****.. sprayed a bit of wd40, left it for 1/2 hour, then walla!!! she's out!!!!!yeah baby......then more drama's... went to change my oil for the first time, didn't have the right size socket, so had to go buy that, then damn sump plug was like it has been welded on.. would not move at all..wd40 did nothing, hammered it, still nothing, not enough nutrigrain!!!! hahahah!!!....
so i went down to my local caltex workshop, asked the guy to loosen it up for me.. he says no worries, wacked it on the hoist, 2 seconds later it loose, go him to do the auto trans plug while he was at it cause im gonna change the tranny oil next weekend!!!... hope nothing else goes wrong there!!..
on the subject.. when do i need to service the transmission????, or do i just flush and refill each time??
