Hi All,

I have a TF 3.0 that is due for an auto filter / fluid change and I took it to one of those 'while you wait' fluid change places. They quoted ~$160, but they said that they do not replace the filter. Instead they suck the entire 10l of fluid out and replace the fluid only. They advised that using this approach the filter does not need replacing, and is superior to the conventional drain and filter change method, because the conventional method only ends up draining about 4 litres of old fluid.

This seems odd to me - I would have thought that filters would clog over time, and should be replaced. What do you think? - has anyone used these places before.

And does anyone know what I should expect to pay for a conventional change.

Thank You

I did the normal drain and flush way and changed the filter. Less than $100 bucks.
But hey pumping out is the better way but I still reckon the filter needs changing. Why dont you just bring it to Mitsubishi to do it for $180 then? just $20.00 more and they should know what they are doing, and yes they have the part for Auto Trans filter. About $30.00 because is made in Japan not Aus.

And welcome to the Club!

Magna's weakest point are their autos. I would ensist on getting a full transmission flush. Not just a drain. By sucking out 10 litres I'm hoping that means a flush
Also consider adding on a tranny cooler if possible.

When u start getting jerks on gear changes this will be the first sign that ur transmission fluid needs replacin'.

As for the filter, i got nfi. I just get it changed each time. (same cost as Nexus <$100 with filter change)

Peace

Tim

I've found a great Transmission place in Braeside.
It cost me round $180 for a full flush and filter change. The filter is only worth like less than 10 bucks so its worth doing. It takes at least an hour if not more to properly change the tranny fluid. What they do is drain it all, fill, run the car to get fluid flushing through torque converter and then drain again repeating this process till the fluid is as clean coming out as going in. For memory i think they flushed about 25 L through my tranny till clean and it wasnt that dirty to start with.

the only time a auto filter gets cloged is when its time 4 a rebuild, better off flushing 10 lt than drain and refil 4lt
