I have been looking at a couple of TJ sports V6 Magnas, I am interested in the road test performance and can't find anything, plenty of 0-100kph and 0-400m figures on Falcons and Commodores. Also I have heard that the 5 speed tiptronic is similar to performance to the 5 speed manual Sports V6, I would have thought that the manual car would be a lot faster? I personally like autos but don't really know much about their pluses and minuses over a manual,
I have heard the 5 speed tippy is very good and performs well.
The ones I looked at were I think 2002 models and were about 16K with higher mileage 120,000+. What should I expect to pay is 16K too much? These were sedans one had climate air and the other didn't. Fuel consumtion figures would be good to. Thanks

$16k is heaps too much for an 02 with 120000kms!
well forget magazine times, the fastest STOCK manual Sports we have on here is Chooky with a 14.8X, and the fastest STOCK tiptronic Sports we have on here is Slim with a 15.32.
So thats around 7 flat to 100 for the manual and 7.5 or so for the tippy.
About a 0.5 second difference generally.
Have you only test drove tippy's so far?? I HIGHLY recommend you go test drive a manual, you wont look back.

Yep Tim-E is right. I saw a 2001 TJ Magna executive with 130,000kms on it and they wanted $8500. This was a few months ago as well. I would say for an 02 exectuive model, with maybe 60,000kms on it - $12,000 - $14,000. For the sports model with 60,000kms - $16,000 - $20,000.

There are a couple of articles done by Motor and Wheels, but not much positive feedback however (Esp. Motor).

Not from the top of my head. I'll have to go through the 'zines again.

From autospeed: 2000 VRX 5 speed : 7.04 0-100, 15.07 0-400
with the 5 speed auto 0.5 seconds slower 0-100

They are pretty quick, so technically a Sports or VRX tiptronic should match or even beat the Fraud BA I6 na with the back to front tiptronic, I think the BA Foulcan does about 7.7 secs 0-100 and 15.5 0-400m
One thing I have noticed is that all the motor magazine tests seem to under rate the Magna 3.5's, and when tested along side of a falcon or commodore the ford and holden always win in all of the acceleration tests, BUT on the road even a heavyish 3.5 Verada will own my VX and mine goes about as well as other VX's, and I once drove a TH Advance auto (non tippy) and it accelerated with an angry growl with seamless power from standstill up to 100kph, Immediately got back into my VX which felt heavy and sluggish by comparison at least until moving anyway, there probably would not be that much in it but there is no way a stock VX would have beaten this stock (120,000km lady owner) TH advance, all I'd be looking at is tail lights.
I wonder if when the Magnas are new they are really tight and the auto invecs II box has not 'learned' yet, because it is only the auto's which post the slower than Falcon and Commodore times. A Manual TF 3.0 sport stock 140 kw tested in a magazine out did all the cars in acceleration apart from the EL 5 speed XR6, the TF just out did the manual VT S.
I think the Magna did 7.5 secs 0-100 and the VT manual did 7.6 secs, but I've yet to see a road test where a stock auto executive or Advance out did a stock auto V6 commodore or I6 Falcon, but in the real world the Ford and Holden would be looking at the arse end of the Magna........confusing.
