Hi, I have a ...

2002 MITSUBISHI MAGNA
TJ MY02 Sedan Executive 4dr Auto 4sp 3.0i

Just wondering if anyone else has one and what does their L/100km say?

I currently run at about 14.5L/100km, now although I don't do freeway driving I'm also not exactly city driving as I drive to work on 70km/h and 80km/h roads and for the most part it's not stop start at all.

Is there a way to reduce fuel consumption or is what im experiencing about normal?

Your *3.5 LITRE 2002 TJ* (they only came in 3.5 litre for this year) is probably running around normal. Most Magna's seem to use around 12-15 litres in city driving, and can get about 8-10 litres on the highway. That is really pretty good for a big auto family car.
Alot of it comes down to how you drive it. HARDER u DRIVE = more fuel use.

Drive a Ford BA Xr8 and find out about fuel use. My mate doesn't drive his too hard and it uses around 18-24 litres around town and never goes below 12 litres on highway!!!!!!! Sure it does put out 260kw though......

those figures seem excessive, how do you drive your car? do you give it a bit of a hard time?? has it always done those figures?

i would suggest you are either driving your car too hard or you have some kind of a problem

I don't drive my car *that* hard, sometimes I drive what I call 'grandma' driving with almost no acceleration and I can just get it to about 11.5 to 12L per 100km.

As for my car - yes it is the 3.0L version.

Could that be the cause? Purely because my engine has to worker harder then say the 3.5L in order to pull the cars weight around?

in the kl awd verada - i get 13'5 around town, 9 country
the wife however gets 15-16 in the city and 9.5-10 in the country.
it's how you drive it.

cars have this amazing ability to roll. people seem to forget that! don't become another "taxi driver"

 Freddy is no such thing like TJ -3. 0 L. only 3. 5 L. :doubt: So if you really have 3,0L, then this mean that someone changed the engines (from 3. 5 to 3. 0 L.!).Now you can go back to the dealer and ask him where original 3.5 L engine is!

nah there are some really early TJ 3.0's i think, one of the member on here has one. anyway 3.0 should be on par with 3.5 if not better. shouldnt use more.

Yes there are 3lt TJs though the last of the 3lt was the TJ series 1, TheDifference has a 3lt TJ when series 2 came in the 3lt was dropped completely.

The 3lt came on execs and the 3.5 was an option, i think all the other models got 3.5 standard across the board.

On mums TJ 2 tippy i was getting 10lt per 100km in full on peak hour traffic everyday which i was pretty surprised with.

There must be something wrong with your car Freddy as even my TF 3lt uses under 10lt, maybe u havent changed ur fuel filter.

Also the TJ weights almost same as a TF or TH so nothing to do with pulling the mass.

V6 24Valve built May 02 is all I can read from looking at the engine.

So by red book id say it's
TJ MY02 Sedan Executive 4dr Auto 4sp 3.0i (MITS02BJ)
OR
TJ MY02 Sedan Executive 4dr Auto 4sp 3.5i (MITS02BO)

I had a feeling it's 3.0i
*wonders how to check*

Hi guys!

Just got back from the QLD Nav Run and used 35l round trip on 420km's. So thats about 8.3l/100k's.

But don't pay too much attention to that, cause from other threads like this, my car seems to be a bit of a freak when it comes to fuel economy :D

my TJ2 Advance Auto
normal driving 9.6-10.2 (never gone above 10.5)
country (450Km trip) average 7.6L/100

I always get great fuel economy

Guys to get a ACTUAL idea of fuel econ

Reset Odometer
Fill tank till its lapping at the top of the filler nozzel.
Drive for at least half a tank, preferably the full tank.
Fill tank till its lapping at the top of the filler nozzel.
Check odometer and record reading. Call it A (In Km)
Check how much fuel went in. Call it B (in Litres)

Bx100
----- = Fuel econ (in L/100KM)
A

The less you drive after filling up the first time, the more inaccurate your results will be because of different fill levels. It might click but it may be 3L from full still, thats why i say make sure its lapping at the top to give accurate results.

What you will find is that its not quite what the trip computer says, they tend to be slightly forgiving on fuel usage. Mythbusters proved it too so it must be true lol
