I know Megatron asked this once but do any other manual owners experience the car shuddering when taking off after starting the car for the first time of a morning, especially after a cold night? It goes away after a few minutes after it's warmed up.

im guessing thatd just be caused from the engine being cold and idle not being normal. Doubt its a problem. Probably just evident from your driving style and how much gas you apply when starting off.
yeh mine does this,
i thought that it was just something to do with a broken engine mount
goes away after a few minutes

My housemates TR shudders every time you are slowing down and put it into second gear.
Just as your foot is coming off the clutch it shudders.. only in 2nd.
I really have no idea what it is, but double clutching seems to stop it, so maybe its something in the gearbox?

yeah, mine does too :? its a bitch to drive smooth sometimes, tries to do this whole Skippy impersonation, gives me the right royal shits!! i've asked a few ppl about it... engine mounts were an idea and also "clutch springs" or "pressure springs", i dunno, but they all made sense...

dudes,
from my experience with the haltech, i believe theres a mitsu 'fault' (not really a fault, but a deficiency) in the Idle Control unit, as even now my car is a B*tch to idle! and yer, if i dont mash the loud peddle from the word go, then i have no hope of allowing a 'smooth' standing glide :S
and yer, i get it below 2500rpm, it 'shudders' fitment of a aftermarket *cough haltech cough* Idle control problem should correct my problem, but again, i donno where you guys are left??
i also think there is a 'flaw' in the setup of the butterflys in the throttle body, its kinda complex, but ive learnt a lot since undergoing the ECU :P
guys, PLEASE dont bag me cos i used "haltech" in this post

yeah, you and your Bloody Haltech!! nah, its all good ;)
the shudders that im getting are not from an ide problem.... its like the old RWD drive train lash/slap.... like something is oscillating back and forth, maybe the engine (via stuffed engine mount), clutch (as mentioned before) or maybe some slack in the diff possibly..... dunno, but in mine, it definately isnt an idle problem.....
i havnt actually had this happen now since i got the new clutch in,
so maybe itt has something to do with that,
i know that i still have a broken engine mount so yeh....

i no it not the engine mounts as i have check them all and they are fine
the prob i am having is not idle it what dingo said
my friends had the same problem in his mazda 323, still under new car warranty he took it in and got it fix
i think he said that it was a screw that held the pressure plate or spring in place was loose
for us to get the fixed will cost about 4 hours labour (4 hours to pull gear apart then put back together)
thus i am waiting for the time when i need a new gearbox or clutch or diff
an dhave it fixed then
i have been told it is nothing major (BUT pls. tell me if not the case)

Megatron, that's the same approach I'm taking. Just wait for the clutch the be certfiably dead then stick in an LSD, (maybe), but definately go a getter clutch plate.
Yep my clutch, pressure plate, flywheel have just been replaced, as well as a total gearbox rebuild with a 2nd hand diff put in and the problem has gone away.

my manual TE magna does this also. This one particular stop sign on a big hill right near my house gets me most days. My brother thought it was cos i couldnt drive properly!

May just be a feathery clutch plate or somthing but from my experience with magnas and galants from the early 90's they had dodgy factory ECU's in them. My galant used to run rough when cold and eventually stopped starting. After a lot of troubleshooting and research on the web I got the ECU tested and there were capacitors on the main circuit that had popped their tops. She was fried. Hapened to my mates TS magna too.
$550 for a 2nd hand swappy. But like I said this is a known issue with early 90's model mitsus. Might be somthing to keep in mind.
