Hey guys this is my first post can u please help me out with my dillema?
Do u guys think that a 2001 awd magna with tiptronic auto box can handle the added power of a sprintex super charger, upgraded complete exhaust system (headers to tailpipe), ported & polished heads & a 50hp shot of the laughing gas?
Also is there really much difference in handling in an awd compared to a regular fwd magna? & will the fwd magna such as a vr-x handle more power than the awd's drive train?
My plans are 2 purchase a 2001 awd magna - how much should I be paying for it?
Did they come with leather?
Any advice/ suggestions will be much appreciated

I thought they had a power handling of 210kw ??? or something like that ??

how long is a piece of string.

gotta remember, most drive line failures are from tit head drivers but underengineering.

put a 2 puck race clutch in any car and abuse it and you will break things.

put a organic sprung disc in a 400kw fwd and because it has give there is alot less chance of breaking things.

PS: its the torque you have to worry about, not power.

i don't know the actual difference between the FWD and AWD but i know the general differences. the AWD is a little heavier and loses a bit more power in the drive train, but with the mods your planning that won't be an issue. the AWD is a 50-50 torque split so your still going to have some understeer characteristics but less noticably. AWD is the best choice for the amount of power your adding though.

It would be fine for the sprintex kit albeit it slightly modded, obviously a trans cooler would be required. They have 240kw and we have heard of no problems. Anything above 275kw would be pushing it but if your into expenditure then a manual evo box could be substitued. Obviouly there will be less stress with that amount of power on a fwd because it will break traction easily rather than hammering the driveline. I wouldnt be bothering with NOS, it will be quick enough and would put the money into all the other upgrades that it will require: brakes/suspension/wheels/tyres.

$20K max.

no nox

EVO 6 drivetrain, good for sustained torque throughtout rev range

Gearbox only possible weak link. Get a tranny cooler (easy to fit). Maybe tranny valve body upgrades avail. I don't know anyone who's actually had a 'box apart.

Gearbox rated at 510nm, lifted straight from Evo 6/7. In japan there was a 5 speed tiptronic auto version of the evo, look up the gearbox number.

It also has a manual sibling... Different bellhousing iirc so not exactly a bolt on concern...

510nm!! :noway: At how many rpm? That's killer!

It'd be a good idea to only run 80% of that unless internals were upgraded. All sounds very boost friendly :D

EZ Boy, boxes are rated at torque loadings, but there needs no RPM refrence to the equation, and the box could probably handle more. If its rated for 510NM of torque then its rated at that with average driving for 200,000km gearbox overhauls. thus if it can do 200,000km with a 510NM flowing through it, then it is a 510NM capable box.

Lets find out. Some one hand me that Vortech VS2 and the PWR water/air intercooler sitting beside it.....

EZ Boy, however any gearbox, abused and mistreated will fail in a very short time, with effective transmission cooling, frequent gearbox oil and filters changes, would also help. However to beef up a trans like that to take more power isnt that hard, putting on more and stronger clutches along with some other troublesome parts will allow mroe power, most "race gearbox" specialist could help you out, im sure this trans is used in other cars, possibly the pajero or triton 4x4, and auto trans specialist would know or have there own specific tweaks. But with that much power, a manual box would be better.

correct me if im wrong, but isnt the magna AWD system based on the EVO's AWD system? if so then i would imagine it can cop a fair bit of power!

yeah mentioned a couple of posts back, i'm pretty sure it was from the european spec evo's? gotta love mitsubishi's swapping parts, almost as good as datsun/nissan!

The Diffs are from the EVO VII GT-A, what differentates this from the RS or GSR so to speak is its auto and produces slightly less power. The main weak point is the Auto Box, rest of the drive train such as diffs and driveshafts would be able to take the power, but the box wouldnt think so.
