HI ALL :o
I am really bored with the Auto, want to ask you guys how wise would it be if I got it converted to manual, what will it involve? how much approx will it cost? is there a suggestion as to what gear box to use? where to get this box? ... any thing else I missed or you have in mind, please tell...
thanks all...

It can be done, you'd need the box, linkages, pedals, etc.
This has been discussed on the site before, do a search, I think the price was anywhere from 2-5k for the conversion.
I cant really remember sorry mate!
It can be done though

yes this has been asked before.... and the common result was that it will be cheaper for you to sell yourauto car, buy a manual car and then work on it!!
its based on replacing the whole gearbox, gearlever (and surrounds), pedals, ECU, dash... its a big job!!!

I have had all 3 Auto, Manual and now SA (Semi Auto) ....
I love the SA ... I use it 80-90% of the time in SA mode...
On te odd occasion I have accidently pushed it from D in N by mistake thinking that it was in SA mode. :(
All in all I would recommend the SA I dont feel that it is slow as a Auto .. and I think it can be driven nearly as well as a Manual...
For those worried about the "lag" between changes... All it means is you change gears earlier..
My peak power is approx 5500rpm.... I rev out in 1st to 5000rpm and then change gears, by the time it kicks in it is at 5500 or 5600rpm (depending on how hard you are accelerating.) and all is good.

Tbutcher, did your car come with Semi-auto? or did you get it converted? Surely a SA gear box would cost just as much if not more than a manual gear box right?
I don't want to get rid of the auto magna, as i really like it's appearance and it would take more time to do up a new one that is manual with all the stuff I have on the current one now. There has been quite some work put into it already. oh well, guess i'll just live with it.

It was SA to begin with....
I thought that it maybe a cheaper option as there might be more of them than the manual ones... which seem VERY FEW...

I think Rhino (can't remember if he was on this forum or MOGWA) did a manual conversion on his 3.0 TF and he said it cost him about $3,000 doing most of the work himself so it is pricy.

Hey Phonic, I read you have a 3.0 TF AUTO as well, with 110Kw @ wheels. Mind letting me know what performance mods you put on please? does it go well? is it snappy? what's your times?
I've did some research, and it seems with the 3.0L V6 engines (6G72), it gets at lot of benefits from uni-chip or haltech as compared to 3.5L with the same mods: (just Extractors and Pod filter), the approx figures goes
for 3.0L, from standard 95ish kW at 5800RPM without chip, to 110ish kW with chip, (@wheels)
for 3.5L, from standard 97kW to about 107ish kW @wheels??? why is there so much effect on the 3.0 but not so on the 3.5?
I'm sure you guys will have seen these dynos before from Unichip. I'm reference it from http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/unichip/dyno/mitsubishi/magna_3500.html

Probably because the 3.0 is a revvier engine, that's my guess.
It'd be better to compare torque and kW figures for a more accurate view of the increases.
The 3.5 has more low end power so that might be where there is more improvement? I dunno.
Again, you'd need to see kW@rpm and torque@rpm levels to see it more accurately
