Hi all,
Well Im hopefully getting a sub at long last!
I was just going to get the Response CS2279 12" Carbon Fibre sub, but then I noticed that Morel have now released a 10" sub.
I can get the Response wholesale (round $150 odd). Have got a Response 2x150WRMS amp to run it off of. FHRX advertises the Morel for $318 i think.
Im happy with the Response from what Ive heard in a crap box in Jaycar, but have never heard the Morel.
I have Morel splits and am very impressed with their quality and sound. Im looking for SQL rather than SPL, but do like a bit of doof doof!
Anyone got any suggestions of which one is better? Anyone heard the Morel subs?
Cheers
Pete

I have 2 Morel 9" Elate subs which will be going up front over summer.
Whilst Morel aren't renowned for their subs. The 10's will be good and very smooth and detailed I'd imagine, but can't be pushed anywhere near as hard as some other brands. They can't handle a 'hammering' so to speak, but will probably be matched well with the power output from your amp.
other options:
Diamond TDX 10"
DD
Boston
Re
Image Dynamics
Treo
To name a few. Whilst the 10" Morel is a fine speaker for the price there are a lot of other options. The Morel will blend very well with your fronts though. But may lack the low end extension of other brands.
May pay to get out there and have a listen.
I would put the Morel above the response though for quality.
Peace

id go for the response, but only coz ive heard them outside our crappy jaycar boxes. Next time you come in ask one of us for a demo of our car. Im running 2 10" response c/f subs, heaps of punch, If you come on the cruiseill be able to show you then. but yeah, your choice.

Ive got myself 2 of those 12" response carbon fibre subs and im EXTREMELLY impressed with how they go. Ive got them powered by some jaycar amp and they could seriously shake my car to bits, and their quality is great too! Im just speaking from my experiance, a very good and affordable buy!

Like Stimulate said if your after a nice clean sound go for the morel, but as far as punch goes the CF 12's go really hard for their price :P

Geez, with Morels in the front, I'd think you should go a bit higher than Jaycar level.
Vibe Blackair is a nice SQ driver, but not huge in the power handling department.... a single 12 or dual 10s..... Dee has a single 12", PM her
JBL.....:D (sorry)... PM me for details :bowrofl: New GT series is dual voice coils....
Single Kicker solobaric 10"???
Boston G2 in a 10".... rrp of $449 (talk to FHRX)
2x Hertz ES200D (10", Dual 4ohm voice coils) rrp$190 each, so under $400 for two
1 x Hertz HX300D (12", dual 4 ohm voice coils, high power handling than the ES series)....$397rrp
I'd probably go for the hertz, but that Boston G5 is mighty tasty.
Nothing wrong with the Jaycar carbon fibres.... but I'd look at the JBLs for about $150 each (250WRMS, 1000W Peak, dual 4ohm VC's, great audio pedigree). I'm running a pair of the old GT4-12's in a sealed box and they certainly have enough doof.

i think the problem with our subs is we can be seen as being a cheap brand, i guess there is such a thing as selling your product too cheap. I wonder what the general impression of response stuff would be if we sold it for twice the price...

Response make awesome bang for your buck gear. Im not denying that. But After hearing them both... Morel is in a totally different ballpark.
But Im biased... *looks at pile of morel boxes in corner of room*
Let your ears decide, many people wont hear $200-$300 worth of difference. So there's no point in blowing the money.
You start to lose money when u buy cheap and then upgrade months later. ( i found out the hard way)
Spend right and do it right the first time.

I just think the response subs are a little... coarse at times, especially under high load. The new kevlar spilts don't sound right to me either..... something very unnatural. The originals were better IMO.
That said, for those on a tight budget, it probably the best way to go.
But the amps.... nothing but praise for the quality and price.
But when you compare Jaycar to Morel & Hertz & Vibe & Boston, it's like comparing a commdore exec to a Mercedes 300C, BMW M5, Jaguar XJR and a Corvette!
Once you have heard SQ subs, you only ever want SQ subs. Take a seat in Dee's car to see what I mean.

I have heard the Response 12 inch Carbon Fibre and they do sound great and are more your "All Rounder" sub as they can handle a Bit of a Hammering and in the Correct Enclosure also sound really good...
The Morel Is a More refined sub , smoother sounding, more Designed for Jazz and SQ then Head Banging Techno....
Have a Demo of Both.. With Music YOU listen to, take your Own CD into the store as it is no use us giving you input if your Ears don't like it..
Get FHRX's opinion on the Morel, tell him your Music Taste and Space requirements, their Maybe a Hertz or a Vibe Sub that may be more suited to your Goals...
Me I prefer Brute Raw Drivers which have More Rubber then Cone the Kind of Sub that looks as Chunky as it sounds one that can Drop Bottom nice and Low...Like My Magnat's

Morel has a reputation of making some of the best stuff in car audio (well their top gear, not sure about their cheaper stuff)
Response has a reputation of being, cheap but good.

Thanks heaps for the replies guys and girls!
I would listen to the Morels, but the only dealer I can find is FHRX and hes is in another state!
I might wander down to Jaycar again and see if any of the guys has some subs in their cars in correct boxes...
Could I run 2 of the 12" (300WRMS each) subs off of one of the Jaycar 2x150WRMS(500WRMS bridged)?? If you have them in parallel the power doubles doesnt it? But in series it stays the same?
Or I buy one of tims DDs!! :D
Cheers

Ur amp wont be stable running two ohm loads when bridged. So best way to run two 4ohm subs is to run one off each channel.
DD > Jaycar :)
