i think this is a quality problem with the 3rd gen magna's....i've been having problems with the left hand rear window/door seal since day one my family have purcahsed the magna. it makes an annoying audiable frequency at high speeds.
i dont think i'd be the only one having the problem. my lecturer drives a magna wagon, being a professor in aerodynamics he was quick to pull the problem with magna's in our wind noise lecture.
anyways, tried gluing the seal using silicone, but it came off after a couple of months.

Got the same prob...i glue it back on...yet, it seems to unstick itself from the door!
meh...i'll just live with it, just keep supa glueing her back on.
Yes, tha noise is annoying at high speeds....altho...the front driver's side tends to make a awesome supercharger whine at higher speeds :D

And i thought mine is the only one with the problem! It's bloody annoying at times...

count me in, driver's side but hmm not really a big bother for me as I hardly travel so fast unless in country side.

Funny, mine is quiet. Although the LH seals where replaced under warranty. Only wind noise I have is from the roof bars, which I can't remove because the damm tool is missing!

there are plenty of tools on amc to help remove them :bowrofl:

my right (drivers) side mirror makes a hell of a noise at high speed. If I had paid, say 46 K for the car two and a half years ago I would be ropable, but having bought it for half three months ago I just grin and bear it.

I think the fact that the windows are frameless adds to the wind noise but offsetting this is obviously the visual appeal of them. This is probably why the 380 has frameless windows since Mitsubishi are now emphasising build quality more than ever. You'll find these problems in a lot of the older sports cars etc with similar windows as well.

Funny you say that, I thought the 3rd gen Magna's had the best drag coefficient out of any Australian made car.
Anyway I havn't had any issues with noise through the seals. I only get a high pitch noise made by the mirrors, and I will only hear it when going more than 80km/h with the window open.

They do, 0.28 Cd for TJ, 0.27 fot TL. Pretty good. No whines or whistles.

Third gens have a Drag CD of 0.27/0.28 - which is pretty darn good for a sedan - even by today's standards (nevermind 1996 when they started out). The door seals would have to do with this but moreso the wide flat frontal aspect, steep screen rakes, high narrow boot and careful undersill streamlining.
I don't get any noise from the doors or the mirrors... at least up to 110k or so.. I tend to close the windows at that speed no matter what, so if the mirrors whistle after that I can't say. But no door seal noise even at 160ks...
BTW I don't think the door seals are that expensive to replace - anyone know for sure?

actually, again according to my lecturer, he said that the AU falcon has the lowest Cd, because he was involved in the wind tunnel testing at RMIT and Monash. he didnt say what figure it is, but being someone who was employed by British Aerospace and Williams F1, i'd say what he talks about are credible.

The AU Falcon
Some of the main engineering advances in body structure made by the Falcon engineering team are:
* 10 per cent reduction in drag (Coefficient of drag .295).

Have you tried arildite? nothing ever lets go once it touchs arildite. it kept my LHS rear window rubber up for almost 18months now! I would almost have to say that arildite is better than duct tape! lol

I have the same problem with my 98 Advance, left rear door/ window makes noise at over 80kph, almost like the window is not all the way up.
But I think the car has had an accident on that door as its a different shade than the rest of the car.
Yes annoying as all f*k...

Any idea if replacing the door seals would solve this problem and how much will it cost?

Well inspect your seals for distortion or damage - if it exists then replace them. Otherwise its all about window glass and door alignment - the CD type manual has extensive points of measurement and methods of change on this issue.

Dont have a problem YET but a little wind noise from the mirrors around 110 and speeds above of course, My old bluebird Never had Air Con only above speeds of 60:bowrofl:

that big seal that goes across the top and down the middle? I replaced mine it wasnt glued it was held in with pressure. the lip holds it in but does have a few clips.
