In case anyone wants to know...

I filled up my 380GT today and checked the fuel consumption.

Litres: 37
Kilometres: 328

L/100km = 11.3

Not too shabby, the engine is not run in yet (<1000 kms on the odometer).

We have booted it briefly once or twice ( in accordance with the run-in procedure ;) )

Cheers,
Pops

do you reckon it'll go down from that?? when the engines run in?? i've never bought a new car....

If hes driving the car sedately and getting 11.3L/100km then expect it to go up when he starts accelerating faster from the lights or in traffic after the engine is worn in.

The 380 isnt an economical car. Maybe for highway use, but my XR6T does 10L/100km on the highway so any big block car can be econimical if used for highway use.. (and FORD run these types of cars rich from the factory.)

Well, thats a maybe, Well see soon enough if its economical. 11.3, is only .5 out from what the manufacturer has claimed, so if we got 10.8 L/100km, then we would have gone 14 Kms extra.

I personally think it will come to better economy when its worked in, it hasn't been babied around either, nor has been given a royal boot full off the lights, just regular driving, Most of Km's are from city driving as well. Id say it will end up being a economical six, because 11.3 isnt bad, of course, Well have to see what the Ford and Holden does.

Id say once it is broken in, A combination of City/Highway driving, will keep the economy at around 11-11.5, I doubt it will be more.

Wasnt the 380 Fuel economy supposed to be way better from all the third gen magnas?
Looking at its size is isnt actually bigger, and I thought fuel consumption should be really way better. Well I let pops update with the consumption thingy.

i found with my magna that after about 2000km on the clock my average fuel consumption reduced by about 1L/100lm from when it was brand new, however my engine felt particularly tight when i first bought it and it really freed up alot in that first 2000km.. maybe the engine in your XR6T wasn't as tight when you first got it so you didnt experience the same thing?

i find my car can be fairly economical (for a V6 anyway) around town and thats without driving it like a grandma.. and the 380 is supposed to have better fuel economy, so i would expect it to stay atleast the same as what your currently getting, maybe even lower a touch

Perhaps.

I do drive my car fairly hard. Its meant to be a 13L/100km city driving, but i get roughly 16 - 18L/100km. So I wouldnt really believe what the manufacturer says.

That being said, my VRX used to do 14 - 15L/100km's city driving. Highway i got it as low as 9.1L/100km.

The Engine atm, feels pretty tight.

As for fuel consumption with my 3.5, I can get it down to 10.5-8 L/100km, for all city driving, but that was pretty stale driving, not letting the revs over 3G, or planting my foot hard, and whenever I was on a decent stretch run in the city, where I could build hold constant speed, Id throw it in 5th gear and let it cruise, with at much Throttle input.

Under normal driving conditions, with a fair bit of throttle slamage here and there, I get about 12 L/100km around town.

And a quick question, when you talk about your Fuel RJL, and Bain, are you doing a Calc from the Bowser, or is that what the Avg Fuel Consumption reading is from the Trip Computer?

My TJ Series 1.5 gets 11 to 12 around city... and 9.0s on the highway... got it as low as 8.7 once. 5spd SA.. What was yours? :)

I get anywhere from 12.5 to 14.5 in the city in my TJ2 Sports 2 - had an 8.2 on the highway before. BUT, there are many various factors beyond the simple right lead foot philosophy to fuel consumption - obviously items such as fuel quality, car load, tyres, servicing, engine age and engine history etc.

I can't pop in another TJ2 and expect the exact same consumption, although I would like to think I'm towards the better end of the scale for the TJs.

Likewise, I think Bains Xr6T is pulling some good consumption figures - I've heard of a lot worse for the ts before.

I've also got a mate getting low 13s to low 14s city driving in a VZ SS, sometimes its just luck of the draw

Trip computer aswell as me averaging at the bowser. I must say the distance till empty of the XR6T is spot on. Once it hits 0km's it has 5 - 10 litres in reserve everytime. (68 litre tank and I usually put in 55 - 60 litres each time i full up)

The worst ive had it at is just on 20.9L/100km.. But that is non stop foot to the floor.

The trip up to Sydney recently for MM05 averaged at 10.2L/100km's

Haha - I'm glad your trip computer is accurate. My friend has a BA and he ran out of fuel the other day. The trip computer told him he still had 19kms left and he too assumed their would be some left after that. No such luck.

..

... and driver style. Very much driver style. I wouldn't take my VR-X over 3 grand in normal go to work driving... fuel miser is me. But I do like to give it the odd hammer...

Might be different between the the series, reprogramming of the ECU etc? Mines a MKII.

i usually go off my trip computer because i have found that to be generally very accurate.. normally only 0.1L/100km out when i calculate it properly

I got an average 8.7L for 100km driving on highways just on my recent trip to the country side. Just curious, is the 4 cyl more economical than the V6 engine? I do know they are not as powerful especially when you intend to overtake another vehicle on the highway. I have driven the TL before so I know that my 4 cyl cant match the extra power, but fuel econ wise, it seems that they perform much better in overall. Though I have known some members here also had good economy on their V6 but those figures I quoted are using ron 91 unleaded petrol which IMO pretty good just for a 4 cyl. My impressions of the 380 was that is fuel consumption should be much more better than most of our 3rd gens, as in a way it looked more compact for a large car.

i have a 3.5 TL and on normal 91 octane i get about low 8's usually on the highway, i have even seen it dip into the 7's before! no sh!t

around town it is usually between 11-13 depending on how i want to drive.. if i am in a bad mood it can go up to 14 and if my gf has just cheated on me i can get it into 15-16.. i've even seen 20 before lol but that was when i was hitting redline just about every time i was accelerating lol but nah normally its around 11-13 depending on how much peak hour driving im doing

lol , 20 L/100 Km !!!!!, WOAH, Ive never seen that Avg before, Maybe I should try harder. I think another consideration to factor in with the 380 is that it does range from 1625-1700 Kg, so 11.3 isnt too bad, Its comparable to the 3.5's, Once its run in, and put on the higway, It'll be good to see what the figures are, should be in the 9-10 mark I presume.
