Hi all,
Well this is my attempt at a "how to guide" for a Flip Boot.
Hope it makes sense.
Fairly easy mod to do, should only take up a couple of hours of your time.

Enjoy.

pretty good guide. jus 1 question instead of bending the hinge why not have the hinge between the boot lid and the arm instead of the hinge goin arouund it. do i make sense???

Thanks mate!

Yeh bending the hinges is this just done so that in the original position the boot lid is resting fully on the original boot arms?

Also if u remove the two rear bolt ( the ones u welded rod to) is the boot openable when shut? I ask this because i am hoping to have this as a functional feature not just something for photos?

hey dude im still yet to do the conversion yet remember you gave me the instructions a while back just curious wat did you use to cut the groove in the boot arms?

Also when the bolts are removed ond you open the boot does it swing to the flip position by itself?

I am thinking a support bar needs to be welded onto the two boot arms to stop the flex, other then that looks pretty good, good job.

Bending the hinges does allow you to mount the boot lid back into the original position. Also i think i helps hold some of the weight of the lid.

The reason the 2 lower bolts are retained is to allow the boot to shut correctly. Otherwise you get the twisting/flexing.

I used an angle grinder to cut the grooves.

Also when the bolts are removed ond you open the boot does it swing to the flip position by itself?

I open the boot in the normal position, then undo the bolts and flip it. The weight of the boot lid lets it drop into the flip position.

heydude - Has the same idea i had, welding a support bar between the 2 boot arms. To make it more solid.

Just wondering if the member who done the Flip boot is still around??

I have done this mod myself but it just doesnt want to sit flat again. Just wondering if anyone has completed this mod successfully??

Ill be posting pics up when complete, hopefully i dont screw my boot up anymore than i already have, ahha.

you are ment to put like a bolt through the original hole like he has done that holds the boot on a stock flat position. when the bolt is removed the boot flips

Anyone done this to a 2nd gen?

ive done the measurements, as i was thinking about it, and from what i could work out, it will be pointless as the lip of the boot doesnt raise up enought or something like that. if anyone wants to prove me wrong then by all means.

Yeah mate, the lid has to have some latches on it to hold it flat, i was just wondering if anyone had used something different to make it flip all the time, im currently installing two spring latches on cables that pull out of the brackets when you press the boot button on the remote or push the button in the glove box. That way it will always flip up without having to remove the stock bolts. Ill post up pics when im finished.

if TUFFTR did this, he wouldnt be able to open the boot in undercover areas! that wing would require over dimentional permits!

And the fact that it weights i would say very close to 20kg+ would be a health hazard.....as i use a stick now to keep it open.....ive had it slam shut on me once and i aint taking that risk again:P

If i can somehow get something like struts to keep the boot open i may consider this....would be a good day filler-inner

Gday guys. I hate to bring up an old thread, but as i am thinking about doing this mod myself, I want to find out how well the boot seals after this mod is done. Does it leak any? does the boot sit properly on the seals? was there any repositioning issues to get the boot to sit straight again? Cheers guys.

i dont think there would have been any leaks because the boot gets bolted back into the original position after you have finished having ur car in SHOW MODE but i wouldn't no

brain storm!!!!!
i see the use of the other 2 struts i have coming into play nicely here :)
get ready for the self opening(completed already) self flipping boot mod(tba) in a 2nd GEN!

ive had a few ideas to make this mod better never actually done it will post up when i have more time

EDIT: i now have more time i was lookin at this mod ages ago and people have disscussed problems such as the boot swiveling because its held on by so little i reckon you could fix that up by (see pic) attaching some support bars once finished the mod u could easly colour code the bars to suite i have a few other ideas but atm they are in the noob stage

as long as you retain the bolts as method of tightening the boot lid, then it will actually be tighter sealed than it was before. it also reduces boot rattles from bass greatly! this is due to the hinge not behing where the bottom bolt goes in, and pulling the boot metal, and hinge metal together tighter.

dont use split pins to lock the lid in place though, they are just retarded. cause the boot to jump 5cm up and down from a small sub, and dont seal perfectly.

I've had this mod on the car for about a year and a half now, the boot still seals the same as before the mod and has never leaked at all. As long as you line everything up properly the boot will sit straight.

Yeah, i have the flip boot on my magna, it needs a support bar accross it, cos it just twists out of control when you lift it ahha. At the moment mine is locked in position with those little slide bolt things that you like have on ya old bathroom doors, ahha.

The biggest problem with the flip boot is if ya dont lock it in position, it doesnt sit flat, im still working on how to make it sit flat you it can flip open all the time.

HI i'm looking at doing this mod and was wondering is it possible to have it so when u open the boot it will sit in "show mode" all the time, or does it need to have the latching bolts inserted for the boot to close properly? effectivley doing away with the latching bolts.

if i remember rightly, nobody ended up finding a way to do this, as it needs to be secured to close properly because of the movement when open
i guess you could try doing it, and then see what happens if you never secure it?
then work from there on it

somebody was trying to join the flip mod, with being able to have it as you said, and then also combining it with the self opening mod
so the simple pulling of the boot open thing makes the boot automatically open up and flip into show mode

Only thing close i have seen is someone who put slider bolts locks on, the type u would out on a gate with a bolt that slid into the arm of the boot and when u slid them out on either side it would flip, not exactly what u want but close
