theres been a number of discussions about this, unfortunately there isnt really a practicle option available.. i have heard its possible to get the DOHC head from the V6 in the 3000GT's but they only kinda fit and alot of modifications need to be done to make it fit properly.. ie its very expensive! Much better off spending your money on something like the sprintex supercharger kit or something

There's DOHC engines in Japan and NZ from Diamantes in the 3rd gen shape. Wouldn't surprise me if they fit but no one will know until they try it. PM meansolara and see if he know's different.

But wasn't his a 3.0L mivec, there a dim a dozen, a after the 3.5L DOCH's. Standard power out of these babies is a 194KW @ 6000, imagine the power when you mod it.

bahaha most of the engines mentioned bolt up to 2nd gens. I'd gamble and say the japanese equivalent model motors will fit

the japanese quad cams and the australian sohc are bolted on the oposite sides, ie one has the chain on the right and the other on the left if you get my drift. your best bet would be looking for the pagero 3.8 v6 quad cam as i believe they are the same way as your aussie magnas and they are not much more bigger than the 3.5 liter engines

yep from the deboinair or so, NICEM8 has one, actually i don't know if his forum name is that.... he hasn't put it in yet, its a 3.5L DOHC and as the displacement is increased by 500cc's it would require an engineers certificate.... in nsw, haven't checked here in qld yet, still a year away from my conversion (gto na)

1) i hate you
2) i thought NICEM8 had a 4?
3) mmm all this talk of a 3.5 conversion is getting me hungry, would ya say a conversion of this type would cost about the same of what KB done?

Nah, mate. There's DOHC engines of the same orientation. Our SOHC head gaskets are the same as the ones needed for the DOHC Mivec.
yeah theres been talk of doing 3L conversions from the SOHC to the DOHC Mivec... manual is offering one now in WA

as soon as i scrape up the funds i know what im doing... i'll hold off any engine modding until then :) 140kw - 194kw factory.. yes please :D
max torque is ~ 300 nm @ 4500

1) i'll get over it :D
2) 6 as stated
3) it'd cost well more, due to much more rare engine, he found by fluke i believe, cant remember, i think this engine would be well over 2k to buy with ecu and needing engineers certificate, i think that'd be over a grand as well...

DOHC 24v 6G74 was oriented the same as the SOHC 12v 6G72 and the DOHC 24v 6G72. So chances are they wont fit on.
I've got nicem8's DOHC 24v 6G74 in my garage...so I can tell you from experience ;)

There's two versions dude. Same as the DOHC and SOHC 3.0's.

Not exactly
There's a DOHC 24v 6G74 which is what I said above (which I have in my garage)
There's a DOHC 24v 6G74 GDI which is different to the SOHC 24v 6G74 (same orientation though) anyway so I doubt very much the heads would fit as fuel delivery and everything works differently.
And thats it. There's been talk about a DOHC 24v 6G74 MIVEC, but I've not seen it, or seen any specs on a car with it. Maybe the Pajero Evolution has it, but that was a concept car so you wont get it anyway.

The DOHC 24v 6G74 MIVEC was used beyond concept, but only in the Rally Pajeros, I don't think they ever used it in production cars as you said.
They also built a bigger version of this engine for rally that had a capacity of 4 litres

That came from a Debonair? There's also the Proudia which had the V8 under the hood. It had an optional 3.5 DOHC engine and from what I understood, it was the right orientation for our 3rd gens which is why some of us dream of finding a lonely 4.5l DOHC V8 that needs a home in our Magna. :D

I saw one on sale in NZ.

The 3.5 DOHC in the proudia was the GDI.
and the 8A80 is rare as hens teeth...but *should* fit provided they didnt change engine mounting positions for the 4.5l DOHC 32v V8 *drools*

From autospeed:
Although extremely impressive, the Ralliart Magna's 180kW output is bettered by the 191kW Japanese market MMC Debonair. The top-line Debonair uses the same 6G74 3.5-litre V6 bottom-end but is crowned with double overhead cam heads and a highly efficient 10.0:1 compression ratio. Its 191kW maximum output is reached at 6000 rpm and 324Nm is available at 4500 rpm. Impressive stuff - isn't it a pity the Australian 3.5-litre Magna/Verada doesn't come with DOHC heads?
Mitsubishi V8s...
There has been only one V8 engine produced by Mitsubishi in recent times. Fitted to the Japanese market MMC Dignity and Proudia saloons is the 8A80 4.5-litre V8 with DOHC, 32-valve breathing and GDI. For an explanation of GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) check out http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_0655/article.html This bent-eight's output is the Japanese regulation 206kW at 5000 rpm and 412Nm at 4000 rpm. Note that this engine has never been factory fitted to a high-performance vehicle - it's intended to lug around heavy luxury vehicles.

Found this regarding Mercedes tuner AMG.....
Auto analyst Jim Hall, of AutoPacific, Inc., agrees that AMG has plenty of room for growth in the coming years. The question, he asks, "is whether AMG should be involved with Chrysler products?" Indeed, the tuner actually built a version of the Mitsubishi Debonair some years back. (It was sold only in Japan.)
And here it is. Fully sick Uleh! :bowrofl:

Yup. The GDI came out on the engines with the same orientation as our 3rd gens. That's why there are GDI 3.0l and Mivec 3rd gens kicking around NZ. Even the 2.5's went to GDI, (which turned out to be of a pointless excercise). Those would obviously fit our cars.

Probably a fair chance but we'll never know. Someone in NZ has also said that the Galant TT 2.5 will fit a Magna / Diamante with the correct engine mounts and no need to modify the engine bay. I'm not so sure but would be interesting to see.

Interesting...that's an old Debonair though, it was the 94+ ones that had the 6G74:
