is it true that pioneer 6x9 screw holes are in the same position as the stock 6x9 screw holes in a 3rd gen?

I've got Pioneer 6x9's in the back of mine dude. There was one screw which didn't line up, and I cbf making it. So they're just there with 3 screws. There's no issues with it htough.

My Pioneers all lined up also but some of the top end ones have baskets too deep for the Torsion bars. I JUST got my 420W in with some neoprene on the torsion bars - the 460s won't fit - period. The 350W and 260W fit just fine.

Also do yourself a favour and when you've removed the lousy little screws, get into the boot and drill out the screw holes. Then mount your new speakers with small hex key headed nuts and bolts (Hex key head and key on window side, spanner and nut inside the boot) This way you get a much tighter clamp on the speaker and hence less chance of strange rattles and other not-wanted noises. Best done with a mate in the boot to hold the sockets, but you can manage it with one person via the Ski Port.

You want the ones as per the pic - though in the pic the bolt scale is wrong. The type where an Allen key goes into the hex on the bolt - that way you can fit the key easily under the glass. You get them from Repco or Bunnings or wherever those packets of bolts are sold.

J&B Hi Fi are having some good deals on the Pioneers these days - like 260W 6X9s for around $100 and was say $150 for the 4 way 420 Watters. The latter thumps quite nicely but you do have to wrap the torsion bars in some neoprene tube to get them to fit. The 260 Watters fall in with no worries.

I decided to put 6 inch in there, and therefore wood was cut to shape for the speakers, only got 2 screws in each, became too difficult in the end. still sounds great. get rid of 6X9 and lock in some round speakers!

Thats a Contradiction in itself, you expect a cheap 6x9 not to distort ??
Cheap speakers will distort it is in the quality of the construction used on them..

You need to boost your funding to at least $200 in Order to get Pioneer,Clarion,JBL or Kicker.

Just becarefull as some 6x9;s have a deep mounting depth and will hit your Boot strut making installation a Pain..

I would only recommend this action if a Sub was being used in the system as dropping Cone Space will decrease Bass ouput off the Headunit he is using.. 6x9's are far superior in Bass ouput to Round Speakers, just not in quality

i have two 12inch subs in the boot. im not looking for something that hell cranks bass, as ego and you (magnat) was saying i just dont want distortion wen the bass runs through it cos i have the bass set pretty loud. i dont want to fade them to the front.
the stock speakers rattled, and also with the subs cranking they made the cone on the stock 6x9's move and i could hear cone rattle from them which made my whole system sound bad.
with no rear speakers atm the bass sounds way way better with no distortion but i need rear fill. i am willing to spend more than $100 but was hoping i could pick up some cheap ones that wouldnt distort...

Check your HU manual - on some of the better ones you can set them to send only Mid and High to the front and rear speakers, and ONLY lows to the subwoofer circuit. That's the ideal solution I believe.

So you need Rear fill and Cheap, In that case I would go for the Round Speaker option on custom MDF baffles as you your self just said the 6x9's moved too much and cause more Cone Rattle then sound..
a 6 inch has less cone space and is less likely to be affected by the subs but it can happen, look at getting small enclosures under then and sealing them off from the boot..
This will take some cleaver custom work to do

You could pick up a nice 6 inch 2-way from Clarion , JVC or Pioneer from your selected Budget

ok thanks.
by blocking them off from the boot, are you talking with some sort of custom wood enclosure?
it doesnt have to be cheap but i would prefer not to spend too much on it cos i only want it there for the surroundish sound, not just front splits.
sorry i should have explained everything better first!
