View Full Version : Flat spot
Hey guys
wondering if you could give me some suggestions where to start looking for the cause of a flat spot im my car.
its especially evident when cold, and between 2000-3000 rpm. Its hesitation, and mostly goes away when the car is at operating temp but has been getting progressively worse.
The other strange thing is, if i put my foot into it, it doesnt do anything for a minute, then boots off as though you just turned on a switch.
Higher revs are fine, and it seems to be fine when you put the pedal down a lot as well..
i was thinking, maybe leads?
blocked injectors? if blocked injectors though, howcome its fine at high revs?
blocked fuel filter? - wouldnt that be starving at high rpm instead of low end?
:S
rotor?? now im clutching at straws :p

It is a common problem with K&N gear. And your profile says you've got that K&N pod.
:slap: <-- then do this to yourself....

Really?
I found the K&N panel helped my flat spot (Even though it still does exist a little).

this is not a K&N flat spot issue.
this has developed a long time after installing my k&n. and i have a panel, not a pod. :gtfo:

Run sum injector clean and PULP through it. You could just have a poor injector spray pattern :D

Well actually the K&N panel is the one causing grief by a lot of members. Chuck in paper filter and see how it goes.
TR-Envy: You're not counted, you have a totally different engine :)
Edit: Just realised you have a GReddy. Has it been properly tuned?

I remember reading in the original "flat spot" thread that a number of members reported that when they first got the K&N filter everything was sweet, and after some time the flat spot developed - which was then eliminated completely in some cases by returning to a stock paper filter.
Weird **** - I know..........

Yep - greddy has been properly tuned.
Car has been running fine on all the mods for quite some time, so its not a problem with tune or mods etc.
Seems to be something consumable, ie, leads, fuel filter, maybe dirty contacts on rotor or something like that??
maybe faulty temp sensor?
just wondering if the flat spot in this range is characteristically one of these things? dunno..

Could be a dodgy TPS (throttle position sensor).
Yeah - interesting :) - do you how how to test this (other than just take it to mitsu?)

Hmm... That's interesting... K&N Panel....?
Engine Modifications:
K&N POD Filter, Pacemaker extractors, Greddy
I'm sure that says K&N pod......

change your spark plugs, fixed my problem (similar hesitation), and will be good for your car anyway.
good luck

I had these same symptoms whitch progressivlly got worse over time. I have changed the fuel filter, fuel pump and checked all diagnostics to no avail. This leads me to belive my fuel reg is stuffed. Definatlly a fuelling problem.

Clean your injectors ultrasonically. Money well spent on a 6yr old car. Get your tuner to check your Fuel:Air under load to make sure your tune is ok on the GReddy.

blah-blah-blah...
I would first of all check everything associated with fuel pressure regulation mechanism - it sits on the end of fuel rail and has small vacuum hose attached to it.
