hey guys,

now i know there has been lots of tint questions in the past but i'm asking neway :P

i need to get my windows tinted. only problem is... i live in townsville, hence its verrrrrry HOT. i went looking the other day and most ppl steer you straight to 35%. now they reckon it blocks 99% of UV and 66% heat, but i didn't think there was much difference.

i was hoping ppl could post up some pics of their tints and their experiences, ie. was it cooler, did it help with glare, etc.

I want the cool blacked out windows look, but mostly i want to reduce the heat and glare.

Now be4 the ppl come in telling me about the legalities, I KNOW!!! but thats just the risk i'm gonna have to take to have a car thats drivable during the day.

Thanks for your help guys

the way i understand it, if it reflects than its better. so if 15 is shiney than so be it, but im going for 25.

as you can see i got 20% tint. i think its a good mixture between ultra dark and legal.
you cant see in which is good, and yes the car is cooler, trust me it does make a difference in heat.
its a bit harder to see at nighttime aswell becuase its so dark. 15% would be scweet as but i dont know how bad it would be driving at nighttime thats all.

35% - weak
go AT LEAST 25%

thats the picture of it with 20%....im actually in the drivers seat yet you cant see me.....just giving you an idea of how dark the percentages might be.

good luck in deciding

Going any less gets the cops attention, but it works well if you dont want ppl to see you or your passanger

Anybody tried mirror tint? It's totally illegal isn't it?

I got a Kashmir TH, and I reckon mirror tint would be sweet on my colour car.

In our Fairlane we have 25% front and 5% rear. Looks awesome but the only problem is night vision is slightly impared.

Just wondering if anyone has had any insurance issues with 25% or even 20% tinting? i'm wanting to put the F1 metalised stuff on from sol-ace tho after peoples expriences with insurance claims - possibly refusals?

p.s. i got a quote for $300 including the removal off the ****ty tint i got on the car atm. helps when you have 4 - 5 cars going through em at the one time :D

i was thinking about 20%, but the guy i spoke to reckoned anything under 35% was where they used dyes to darken it and they faded bad.

ne1 care to comment more???

There's a couple on here that have used it. I believe it is rated the same as normal tint with the percentages, and 35% being the darkest legal still.

Straight from the SA Road Traffic Vehicle Standards Rules, Part 5, Division 1, number 44 -

"(7) Glazing that has been coated to reduce its luminous transmittance must not have a reflectance of over 10%."

So basically it follows the same rules for the percentages of the transmittance (i.e. 70% front, 35% rear), just the reflectivity can't be more than 10%. Anybody got any pictures of their own mirror tint, so we can have an idea of what their percentage looks like?

Go AT LEAST 20%. Mine's 20% and just recently passed rego at a high profile mechanic without a hitch. ;) Cops have followed me and I've been RBT'd on many occasions and I've made it to my destination infringement free. :D On a really hot day, I have not found much difference with the in car temps. However, when it's warm, I don't have to have the air con blasting thanks to my tints.

is the best photo i have of i "mirror tint" .......... let me add "mirror" tint is illegal!... however u can get "black chrome" which is what i have its called ENDURANCE at day time it has a silver reflective look to it , at night time it goes really dark ....

this is 38% tint on all 4 wndows with 5% black flame on the back 2 windows..

no one belives me that its 38% it looks alot darker than it really is which is a goodthing cos u can still see out the windows!

i have to agree with EGO. 15% is the go.
Had mine done last tuesday and the noticable difference is awesome.

15% has it all, dark, but still useable at night (unlike 5% hey Daz???), not legal but it'll suit you're needs.

well 15 or 20 % sounds the go.

is there any truth the the fading thing, any1 had trouble with the darker tints fading or going purple???

and is there anything you can do with the front??? isnt it illegal to put anything on the front???
