Hello all,

My second motor is rebuilt and i have alot of fun with how hard it goes but im now wanting some more power. I'm wanting to go turbo, ive been looking at putting a Garrett T28 on the 2.6 or getting my hands on an original sigma turbo from back in the 80's but they are hard to find.

Im also looking at maybe putting a GTO motor in the car. The 3 litre 6 cyl turbo i was wondering bout gear box and mounts etc.

I'm posting to ask what conversions have been done and what has worked and what would be a good idea??

cheers Paddles

monga and shagna both have turbo TR's, so the only original way to go now is a twin turbo TR, a twin turbo V6, or a supercharged TR

others have been done, although still very orginal, you wont be the first.

PM either one of them to get some help;)

Ay howz it going...

Depending on how u build ya engine throwing on the T28 turbos would be the best way to go (thats my opinon). As you have already put ya new engine in it would be a waste to throw in the GTO engine.

Also the GTO engine is built for a 4WD i think u have to convert it dont ya? check up on dat...

GTO engine can be fwd or AWD.
Sigma turbo manifold wont work as it's for a rwd car, also i believe the sigma turbos didn't use the astron II, they used a 2L variant.

exhaust manifold?? as in where the turbo uses pressurized gases to spin up to 100000rpm, as in nothing to do with drivetrain.

I'm not 100% with turbo apps, never owned a turbo car, actually only owned one car

Sigma turbo's came out with a (turbo head).. i cunnently have a astron 2 head from a magna the exust is the same pattern and no problem there. But then inlet manifold pattern is really different as so are the water jackets..

I would think doing a turbo would be heaps easer then charger.. The manifold is easy 2 find and u dont have to piss fart arournd with pullys belts Etc...

The RWD engine is north-south whereas our FWD engines are east-west, so basically the engine is rotated 90 degrees. In saying that the manifold will not be around the right way, could be possible to modify one, but i'm not sure on that.

hey all

thanks for the input. the gto engine would fit alright the only thing i have to work out is a gear box for it to run the engine for rear wheel drive. im thinking away from the gto engine cos i have spent the money on the engine already.

im thinking a garret t04 turbo or a t28 but i would like a sigma turbo and manifold, they can be modified to fit the east west motor. ive been looking on net everywhere messaging sigma clubs etc.

i was really after people who have turboed 4 cyl engines the 4g54, just what they have done and any troubles what has and what hasnt. everyone opinion is good keep it up.

cheers Chris

is your engine fuel injected or carbie?
As mine is carbie and i wanna mod it but i have recieved a couple of quotes from mechanics saying im not gonna get much power from any turbo/supercharger unless i get fuel injection or a bigger carbie.

If you successfully do fit a turbo in, i do wanna hear about it cos i wanna fit one or two (i'll have to change the engine) that way i can get an idea at least of what im doin

I'm a Diamante owner over in the states, bought a pair of TD04's from a 3000gt VR4 along with the side mount IC's, larger injectors, down pipe, even lower compression pistons (though i'm not gonna be using them). All cost me 850USD though i still need a lot of parts such as fuel management, gauges, oil lines, and whatever else comes along with putting turbos in a car that doesnt need them.

I'm looking at a total price of 2000USD so thats about 2,730AUD. Not too bad for a TT conversion in my book. Expect to be done with the project around the start of the new year.
