G'day,

Well Im purchasing a magna wagon in the next week or so and Im going to put a budget system in her. I want a sub and also want to run only one amp. I was thinking of Just front splits and the sub running off one amp and keeping the stock rears running off the headunit as a bit of rear-fill. Would that be alrite? I listen to punk rock (grinspoon, pennywise, CKY) hiphop (hilltop hoods, Bias B, DRE) reggae (cat empire, beautiful girls) and also some mainstream techno.

My budget is as follows:

Amp: $250 (jaycar??)
Splits: $200 (Jaycar??)
Sub: $150 (??)

I already have a mid range JVC headunit. Am I dreaming or could i get some decent gear for that money? Recomendations would be great fellas.

Going about it the right way.

Need to factor in cost of install too though, wiring, rca's, door prep. Can you diy ?

Yea I will be doing it myself for sure, Ive done simple installs before. I understand i need some extra money for door prep etc so thats why my budget on speakers/amp is a little low. I was thinking of picking up some second hand gear, I was looking at the CAA forums and there seems to be a bit around. Still open to suggestions tho

Update,

I have ordered from Jaycar the 6.5" splits and the 4x130 Amp. Im buying a Eclipse CD3434 Head Unit. With the amp running the splits and bridged to run a sub can someone confirm that i will get some decent sound coming out?

Yeah should go nicely... Installation will be a major factor though, so plan it our right and do it right the first time.

Hmm what other factors other than sound deadening are you talking about? Im making MDF speaker spacers for the doors, slightly tilted towards the headrest, the tweeter i was thinking the same as where yours (s_tim_ulate). I know not to run RCA's and the power on the same side and Ive been told to use 8 guage(?) wiring. Anything else?

Invest in some acoustic tiles from jaycar (~$7) some spray adhesive will hold them in place. Put them behind the midbass driver to stop reflections.

Deadener can get pricey - Also consider spray/paint on deadener behind the trims.
I would go stinger roadkill/dynamat if possible. (sound off for the paint on stuff)

Rewire the front splits accordingly. Consider sealing up the front door service holes with mdf.

Also consider deadening the boot, although u might not have enough power to warrant that yet. Focus on the doors first.
MDF baffles will do wonders over the stock stuff. You can buy speaker sealant or use blu tack to further seal the speaker against the mount. With the deadener start around the speaker and work your way back.
Tape up your lock rods with electrical tape to stop resonance too.

Most of it is basic handyman work, doesnt need to cost a fortune.

Peace

Tim

Stylyn boronia
Central Car Radio on Nepean hwy
Hectic Brunswick (from memory)

Most car audio shops will have this or a similar product. Autobarn sell cheaper k&n stuff, not car audio specific but will achieve similar results, ul just need to apply more.

I'll have to pop into Stylyn tomorrow then, and you can just paint it on anywhere on the metal of the vehicle? So theoretically, I could just pour the whole tin into the spare-wheel well if I wanted to and it should do something? :-)

The tubs are pretty small (1 litre) but i've managed to cover my two door trims completely. Instead of pouring it in, paint it on. Or preferably Spray it on if you have access to the equipment. You can mix it with water as per instructions.

But yes the sound off will work well in your wheel well. Well Well Well it should. :P

The stuff sets like a rock

Hahah, yeah, 1L is plenty. How much is for a tub? I might dead the boot like crazy with the paint... :-)
