This sounds so no0b but still its for a bit of fun!

Dad has one of those old skool 80's mega huge stereo's that have the massive woofers in them (12 inches maybe? i dont know) anyway im looking at making a muck around box with stuff laying around and putting it into my cra as a bit of learnign about my stereo and how it all works. Now i have a few questions i would like to ask of y'all (no i dont want good sounds quality so dont say it will never sound good, its just for mukin around!)

I dont have an amp, so im guessing its necessary to actually buy one? Cos you cant run it off the HU can ya? Is it possible to bridge channels from the HU? As in the rear two go to the sub? I have a 6 speaker stereo so im wondering what to do with it, its only a stocky Tape player so its not like i ahve anything expensive to break.

Any ideas, suggestions are welcome!

As far as I know briging HU channels isn't a good idea, can't say I've ever tried it tho so if you want to, lemme know how it goes :P

But yeah as far as power goes those woofers would most likely be 8ohm and possibly even more depending on their age meaning they'd require a lot of driving, the sort that a HU can't manage, you'd get sound but if you tried to turn it up your HU would clip and cook :)

you will find that running home audio subs have different rated OHMs. I did try to see what subs would sound like in my car, i took the same sort of speakers shuved them in my boot and used the amp from inside whilst i was in the garage to listen, could be done, but alot better to use something like Jaycar subs, unless of course he has a sherwood or similar home audio setup. In which case run and hide and never touch them, they are the king of home audio in my price range.

It will sound shiat and you'll most likely blow the speakers. They arn't made to handle alot of wattage, but remember also coming from a 240v power supply they dont need to be as there is a constant flow of high power(hard to explain, not even sure if i have it right lol). You could run them off the headunit easily, all the speakers inputs would be low level inputs. Check what the settings are for the speakers before you plug anything into them (unless you DO wanna blow them up lol)

Oh and about bridging HU's, you cant just bridge an amp, it has to have the right circuits to allow bridging, otherwise it wont do jackall, most hu's that i know of dont have this bridging circuit in them.

Running Home Audio Speakers from Car audio amps is a bad Idea.. Ohmage and Impedance ratings are different and can lead to Failure of equipement

Early Headunits were Bridgeable but not now..

Now they use Mosfet High Power headunits which if you do try to bridge will cause excessive heat and will fry circuitry
