I've just bought a 95 KS Verada V6, beaut car. Does anyone know of any common problems with these? Mine has got 205,000km on the clock, new valve stem seals, heads machined, auto serviced, new timing and drive belts done etc, runs sweet, a bit of a drop in power compared to my TF but it's not as sluggish as I thought it would be, but could be better.

Only problems I have are:
1. Oil leaking from the oil filler cap. Gotta buy a new one tomorrow.
2. Ticking noise which is intermittant, I'm assuming its the lifters. Changing oil tomorrow.
3. When cold, starter motor sometimes wont operate, but next turn of key it does. I think its the starter motor solenoid.

Any other ideas in case i'm wrong with these?
Otherwise the car is great, smoothe tranny, great handling etc. I love it.

seems like you have all the Major things sorted, only thing i have to do on my KR is Belt and Valve stem seals.

Do you mind if i ask how much you payed for it.Common problems as you should know are drive shafts, oil leaks around tappet gaskets and front seals and the orafaces pertaining to the throttle body and pluenm chamber can have buildup of deposits causing increased pressure and oil leaks. Shockies are usually dead with that many ks depending if there been replaced or not. Happy Driving.

1. Filler cap seal is worn and/or PCV valve is blocked. The valve can often be cleaned, but at that mileage it's better just replacing it as the spring would be quite worn. The filler cap seal can be bought on it's own, you don't need a whole cap.

2. Hydraulic lash adjusters. If new oil doesn't fix, then replace them.

3. Mine does this occasionally too, but I haven't got around to getting it looked at as it's only 1 in 10 starts.

Only other things are the suspension would be well worn by then, likely will need at the minimum new dampers. Fit new bumpstops at the same time, and if you want to lower the car put your springs in at the same time to save labor.

Other than that mine has been very trouble free and just clocked over 280KKms!

Cheers guys. I paid $3,000 for it with 205,000km. Just put new oil in, mitsu 15w50, it has quitened it down a little but I will have to check it when the engine gets cold again.
As for the suspension it has new suspension and shocks on the front, so the ride is generally good. I did find a new oil leak at the rear top end, nothing major yet. Have degreased the engine to see where its coming from. I bought a new oil filler cap, good thing I did, the whole inside of it was worn and the metal bit bent etc.. $24.85 for a newbie and seals nicely.
Had the car on the hoist with mechanic and he's given me the thumbs up. He also said with the tapping noise maybe put an additive in the engine oil to quiten it down. I'm hesitant about additives though.

*EDIT: Also I had trouble getting the keyhole in the door and ignition to turn off last night, mainly after i washed the car with high pressure water. Seems alright today though.

Indeed. They are worth above the $6000 mark according to my local Mitsu dealer, so if yours is in great nick then you still got a steal. Just had to stir the pot abit lol

I'm very happy with my KS. It's an ei. Anyone know the difference between ei and xi?
I degreased the engine the other day and so far 500km later no more leaks. So for what I paid i'm stoked.

Basically The difference between ei and xi.
xi has two tone paint work, electric seats, electric contolled suspension, different style of alloys and an upgraded interior. Thats about it I think. The ei retailed new close to 40000 and the xi about 48000.

cool thats alright.. i thought the xi was the better of the two but havent seen interior of one.
The old girl of mine shall see some big km tomorrow, about 1200, 13 hrs of driving continuous. Fingers crossed she makes it, I have no reason to think it won't I've been putting it through its paces. Have all the appropriate precautions: spare oil, heaps of water, power steer fluid etc.
Then dammit, I will only have access to net one day a week  won't get my daily AMC fix. :bowrofl:
