Since studying is so dam frustrating and i need some activities to break up my study i want to muck around and blow up my stock 6x9's that i took out of my car. I was thinking i will just take out my sub and wire up a 6x9 where the sub normally is.
Now my question is when the speaker blows is it gonna hurt my amp or will it just go into protection mode?? And then if it does go into protection mode how do i put it back to normal??
cheers for your help guys

Anything is possible when Destruction is desired.. You could Pop the Speakers and Blow the amp or Just pop the speakers and have a really bad smell hanging around for a few hours

Well by blowing the speakers you are basically creating a short circuit. It depends on what amp you are going to do this with. It may go into protection but it may also destroy the amp. What amp is it?

The amp will go out of protection mode as soon as it doesn't need protecting :).
Could possibly blow the amp if the connection becomes direct, but i doubt it, the speaker will blow then you'll lose circuit. Wiould be cool to fry a speaker though :).

If you do not take precautions when roasting Speakers you can expect problems.. Me for one would use a Cheap amp, a Heavily Clipped Signal and crank the volume...
It is also best not to have the speakers installed in the Vehicle at the time.. Major Heat can cause Melting of plastic and if the Short is Huge often a Major Spark can occur..
This is why When Pro's Blow speakers up they do it free air and on Benches or Concrete surfaces and Make sure the speaker is a long way from anything..

"Dont try this at home" seems to be ringing quite large bells in my head about this one..
if you cant garuntee the safety of the amp, is it really the smartest idea to do it just to see some blown speakers?

If you are bored and want to watch speakers being really tested
Visit here..http://www.realmofexcursion.com/videos.html
I turned my Stock 6x9's into party speakers.. Built them a good enclosure, took them around to a mates place.. Played Tunes at a High Volume level till they eventually Roasted..
We used all Dodgey equipement and had about 15 people around and also had Fire extinguishers and a Kill switch for the Power...
DO NOT DO IT IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE BASICS OF ELECTRONICS!!

I do remember talk of hooking up a cheap sub to 240V AC and letting it fry....
Don't do this at home kiddies: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12792
Its getting warmer, our destructive tendencies are coming out again!

i understand the basics of electrics, doing engineering at uni. But i dont really understand car audio amps and their protection mode. The speaker would not be in the car. But i dont think i will take the risk anyway. Maybe if i can find a cheapo boss amp out of the quokka then ill give it a burl. Now i gotta find something ele to do....maybe sound deaden the boot or something.
cheers for the help anyway everyone.
