Well after blowing the stock speakers in the VRX i decided it was time to go get me some new ones.

I had originally bought a set of the Cadence 6x9's but the coil was to big! (I really liked the sound of them too!). I was going to be going for an all cadence setup (amp, splits and rears.. and a 10 inch sub in the parcel shelf).

So in the end i went with these:
Now ive got a dilema.. Do i buy 6.5" Kicker splits?!?!?

Also to fit these in im going to need to make some spacers to raise them a little as the coil still touches the boot lid rods..

i went into tonkins and they showed me the eclipse range (or whateve was the fujitsu brand) he said they were the ones found in the ralliart and that they should fit perfectly into the current spots.

Yeah but the coils are really tiny compared to what i want.

The rear speakers are acting as subs for my car.. So i can reclaim my boot space :)

Ha sounds like you got a problem, another problem people have is that the midrange and tweeter sit up to high which means the factory rear grill sits up too high and it is hard to get it to sit flush without damaging it. I just got some fusion powerplant FPS 652 for the front of my sportz and they sound sweet as cuz of them being mounted mid way up the door and they have an adjustable tweeter, not bad for $150. No offence dude but you are not going to loose a lot of boot space with a 10 inch sub.. especially if it is in a sealed box. If you want bass get the pioneer TS-A6970E if you are on a budget ( only set you back $200 or less ) and i know they fit and they have more bass than the kickers or if you are an upmarket dude get the Rockfords, umm cant member their code number but they are $350-$400. Those 2 6x9's have the most bass in a car environment without a box of most if not all 6x9's on the market.

Dont get me wrong.. I love pioneer.. All ive had in my car is pioneer..

But those speakers you quoted above dont have the bass i require. The cadence and kicker do. I got a pretty sweet deal on the Kickers anyhow.. (RRP: $319 - i got em $235)

If i had to chose id go the Cadence but they dont fit :( and unfortunately the new Cadence Ultrashocks only come in 6x8's.

Ive already got 2 10inch Pioneer subs at the moment in a sealed box. Ill be cutting out the 10inch sub hole in the parcel shelf and adding a open air sub and sealing the boot surround.

if you wanna do that then you need Pioneer compression horns.... damn expensive though (from memory $500-600 just for the front 2 6x6) thats if you can find some.... i think they've stopped making them cos they were too expensive.

not trying to shoot you down here, but the sub in the parcel shelf is sorta illegal.... :?
cause the rear shelf is defined as a structural support for the car it can't be cut or altered in any way.
so unless there is already a 10 inch sub hole there, then don't let the police know :D
Nothings illegal till you get caught

Actually, the Ralliart has an option i believe to have a 10 inch sub fitted in the very hole im talking about.

Its not illegal :)

If you look in your boot then inbetween the 2 6x9 speakers youll see the indented 10inch sub hole im talking bout :)

not the cardboard, but the metal underneath. other wise every custon rear shelf would be illergal, but they aren't.

And indent or no, its illegal. if it ain't cut, it can't be (legally anyways :D )
look in fast fours, one of the later ones (june, august or september i think...) in the sound questions.
Someone was asking about putting 6x9's on the rear shelf, but didn't have the holes. He was told that it can't be cut because of legality issues, the only way to do it is to put in spacers.
So the ralliart option must use some other form of support, a brace or something, that the other magna's don't have if they cut the rear shelf for the 10 inch sub.

i doubt it'd be illegal to take out the hole, as the metal is only very thin, i don't know how they could count it as structural support(i'm sure the basket of a 10 sub would be much stronger!

i work at holdens, and one of the jobs i do is install the rear 8" subs in calais and statesman etc, there are the same holes where the speaker goes in all the other models, just spot welded over with a seperate piece, i'm sure the mitsubishis and most other models are exactly the same.

Yep!

After speaking with my Mitsubishi dealer they said it was ok to do. It gets done for the Ralliart Magna's :)

Get a free air sub over an enclosed sub :)

The boot is huge so it should produce some nice bass.
