so my exhuast has just shat itself so i'm using this as an excuse to get a whole new one. I'm just interested to see wat u guys have done, where'd u get it from and how much did u pay. I'm in NSW but i'm interested in nationwide. I'm thinking about getting headers and a all the way through exhuast. if extractors are worth it i'll get them but just looking for some feedback. so plz ppl with aftermarket exhuast let me know wat u have and how much it costs, photos would be great aswell.
cheers
Rhys

best advice would be to go extractors, 2.5" all the way back, single cat, and i think 2 mufflers is normal? maybe just 1 at the back would be too loud. i dont think i've heard a 3.5 exhaust i havent liked yet, (some of the 3.0's sound a bit tinny for some reason) it just comes down to what u want. theres plenty of room for a muffler either side, but no real point other than looks.

I'm pretty happy with my setup which is;
Extractors (Race Series)
2.5" S.S Hi-Flow Cat
Redback Exhaust piping (2.5" mendrel bent from cat back) and
Redback Muffler

You'll get ppl telling you that the redback muffler is pretty droney - truth is it makes abit of noise down low in the RPM range, but IMO it isn't an overly loud system.

I paid around $350 (incl. shipping) for all the redback gear (purchased off ebay), approx $250 for the Cat (phillcom rally) and alot for the extractors (RPW). It then cost me about $300 to have it all fitted....... if I had my time over again, I would have got the parts thru the exhaust shop which did the fitment, because they would have charged alot less for labour.

There's money to be saved by using pacemaker headers instead of RPW headers, but it's up to personal preference.

If you can't afford a complete exhaust upgrade, and you're upgrading from stock - I can vouch for the fact that a simple muffler replacement will make more of a difference than replacing everything else on a car which already has a performance muffler (if that makes sence), and I found when I went from just muffler to full system - the sound didn't really change all that much.

As i just stated in another exhaust thread, i did a 2.5 cat back through a 2.5 ID, 4 inch round, 20 inch long Magnaflow glass pack muffler, split in a T infront of the gas tank and shot out the sides in 9x1 inch tips, seems to have a lot more mid range power and a hell of a nice tone from a 3.0 V6. And having side exit tips turns a lot of heads in slow moving traffic :D

so does anyone know how big an actual stock pipe is in a magna yet? i want to get a full 2.5" cat back system done too but not if its gonna give me ****all power if any

I'm guessing its the same as the Diamante seeing as they share enough of the same parts. Its a 2.25 stock pipe that can be simply enlarged to 2.5 with no trouble at all. It'll definately give you a bit of a hp and tq increase (sorry dont know the conversions into austrailian standards) but it will all be slightly higher in the curve due to less backpressure in the low end. But seriously if you can tell this just by sitting in the car with and without the extra 1/4 inch then you spend far too much driving it. All that matters is its faster right?

A week ago I had a set of Wildcat extractors fitted (Thanks EZ Boy's Dad) with the existing redback 2.5 inch cat back exhaust. The power increase is noticable and very nice. Noise .... hardly noticable. Has a low rumble at idle, sounds a bit deeper when you're into it, but all up a very low profile system.

I am getting the resonator removed maybe next week as I have plenty of room to move with the amount of noise I am producing. Will keep you posted.

Hope you like headaches....... by all accounts that will make a huge difference to how loud it is. The guy that fitted my exhaust reckons he did a cat back system for a magna without a resonator, a week later the guy was back because it was so loud it made his wife physically ill.

I dunno, i took out both resonators in my D, one 20 inch and one 6 inch (one is below the center console, the other just infront of the rear wheel at the second elbow of the exhaust set up). Sure its loud but at low rpms (anything under 2000) there seems to be noise cancellation coming from somewhere. Its only past 1/2 throttle and higher revs that you get the noise. I'll try and get a sound clip for you guys.

EDIT:

Here's the sound clip i took with my phone, not great i know, and it doenst pick up any base, but you can tell how at idle it isnt obnoxious or anything at all.

EDIT of my EDIT:

Ok, i cant upload mp3's to this forum so here's a hotlink the the D forum with the admin's permission:

3.5l engines have 60.5mm OD amd 3.0l I think are around the 52 mark.

I have just fitted a redback exhaust that I sourced via EzBoy....I was in the same situation, the piping had turned to swiss chese, and the welds were failing. You run over a few dead animals over my way which doesn't help.

Engine/breathing mods already: K&N Panel in factory airbox.

Anyway, instantly quieter, and throatier down low. Up in the high rev range it seems pretty quiet for a stock exhaust. Has a nice rumble to it without being loud.

Engine/Breathing mods to come: EzBoy Monsta-flowed Throttle Body (Should be arriving tommorow for fitment over the weekend... ), and possible inlet resonator removal/plugging to extract a little more 'rorty' sound from it......

If you are doing the lot, and since you are in NSW... just go see EzBoy and get the works with a redback system, replace the cat, and see what he can do for you with the headers/extractors. He does a better deal for you than eBay - we are talking supply & fit (minus any tip) for less than what you buy them off eBay for BEFORE FREIGHT!!
And it is good to support our own people.....

He told me he was driving his Dad's XR6 ute today, and there was a mitsu V6 in the back of it.....Ian's cooking up something for the 3L 6G72's and that's all I am going to say, apart from the fact I will be first in line.....
