Ok so i was driving around a round-a-bout, and my horn decides to honk all the way... i got a few wierd looks from some ppl, but i had to keep steering around.

Theres something like a screw i can hear rattling around inside the steering wheel, the horn hasnt worked at all for some time, but every now and then it works, but is very very faint and sounds so pussy. The fuse is ok pretty sure, cause ive checked that

any ideas?

Peace

it just comes off with your hands.....well mine did.....

if u can hear a screw flyin around in there, it probly made contact between the 2 metal parts and thats why your horn went off.

My horn sounds like a pussy fart as well but most horns have an adjusting screw on them to make them loud again if that don't work then get new horns.

How much auto electric experience do you have?

There are two ways you can go about it...

1. Scrap the old horn, run the existing power to a relay (provided), run the necessary powers, earths etc to the new horn motor. That is dead easy to do!

2. Install a switch in the car that will allow you to swap between your old and new horn! This requires running a few wires through the grommit etc etc. This is harder (but very do-able)

Not sure the legal stance on them...

As far as where to put the trumpets/motor... My trumpets are cable tied to the inside of my grill, and the moter attached (with cable ties) to the bottom of my bull bar (pre bull bar it was attached to the bumper)

The answer... Pretty Easy

so i put the 2 old horn plugs onto the relay then run new cables to the new horn compressor, and thats it? i have no automotive electrical experience, my dads an electrician so maybe he can help. Thanks

Were are those horns on the TR ?

The horn is up under the front bumper on the right hand side of the car.

The horn should come with a (very very crappy) wiring diagram. but yeah...

essentially the relay has 4 points

One is the old horn power going in
One is the power for the new horn coming from the battery
One is the power going TO the air compressor motor thingy
The last is an earth

Just make sure you get a fuse holder and put it between the battery and the relay (30amp). Also make sure your cable is well rated.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help, I would take photo's and do a proper explanation.... but i don't finish failing my exams until next thursday! if you can wait that long

When I got my big exhaust done on Monday I checked my horns and yep there is an adjusting screw on them so loosen the horn and turn the screw inwards a bit at a time and test it either it will get louder or not. Will give mine ago tomorrow.

Watch for finger?

I never have had the random horn go off for no reason, but I do suffer from the girly weak horn.

Now, where's that Nathan 5-chime?

In the exec the horn pad comes straight off

In the SE and Verada, there are 3 screws behind the horn pad.

I use the BMW Units, several people have them now as I get them from Indo very cheap.

These sound a lot better than air horns.
