View Full Version : Scratched my beautiful new 380

Pulling out of the car park yesterday I scraped the passenger wheel guard on a concrete pillar. I haven't had this 380GT for more than a week and I had managed to put a rather large scratch on it:rant:. Suffice to say that I nearly burst into tears.
I guess I must not yet be used to driving around in a "large car". My last car was a Peugeot 206CC and it was considerably smaller and easier to park. After 2 years, that car was still in perfect condition. The same can not be said for my new 380 now.
Can anyone suggest a good paint and panel shop in Canberra? I don't want to claim on insurance as I doubt it will be worth it.
Thanks....

damn that sucks!! sorry to hear.. its always the way though, you can drive round in a car for 5 or 10 years and not put a mark on it, and if you get a new car and something is gonna happen, it normally happens within the first 2 weeks... mums brand new mazda 6 got rear ended within the first 2 weeks ($6700 damage) :doubt: and she had never had an accident in all her life before that
it makes ya feel soooo annoyed.. good luck with getting it patched up!! :D

You think thats bad, I work at a rental car company and have the RACT, Insurance contract and this one guy bought a brand new Ford Focus and it was WRITTEN OFF within TWO hours of picking it up, A log truck took the rear end. me well i was hit with a shopping trolley but coles had plastic one so all it left was a grey strip.

I personally think that people who leave their shopping trolleys in the car park should be shot by Supermarket sponsored Police snipers. How much trouble is it to return the &%^#@ trolley to the trolley return anyway?
I saw one lady empty her shopping the other day and literally push her trolley into the middle of the road. She just drove off, having blocked the entrance to the car park. Worse yet is returning to your car to find some $&#* has similarly left their trolley resting against your vehicle. Return the bloody things people! It isn't hard!

How about just being able to be shot by People who work at the stores....
I think the population in Australia would suddenly decrease rapidly over night..
I parked my Magna at work ( Woolies) came out 9 hours later and found a Hugemongous Trolley scratch from the front to the rear, some moron had scratched my Mags and Was stupid enough to leave a Glass Bottle behind my front wheels... Please tell me Homocide is justified by the above !!!!

I have to admit that I use the excuse "I can't take my car shopping because it might get a trolley scratch". This is usually enough to convince my wife to take her beat up, scratched Hyundai Excel shopping and leaving me alone to watch the cricket. lol

i think its funny when you drive into a supermarket car park and the cars tend to get better as you get further away from the store.. all the nice mercs, bmws and that are often parked in the last row..
and i quite often do they same.. where i work (in the major shopping centre in my area) there are 4 car parking spaces where no-one can possibly park next to you, and ill drive round them all waiting to get one of them.. (nearly always do :D ).. nothing worse than supermarket dents in your door.. they show up like nothing else and even if you get them fixed you can sometimes still see the slightest ripple..
and those inconsiderate trolley users.. (normally the wealthy driving the nice cars) who leave them in the middle of a car space.. they annoy me no end... thats when you need a bomb of a car or a bullbar just to smash the bastards out of the way :bowrofl:
i worked at a supermarket and im telling u it doesnt matter how far you park they still hit your car. i got out from work one day and i saw this old lady - i hate them now - open her car door onto my car c the dent she made hop into the car wind go the door and it hit it AGAIN i ran to my car to get her details as it was not a nice dent and she saw me and ive neva seen an old lady tear off so fast ever. most dents on my car are from work and people opening the doors. i ask you how hard is it to watch how close u have parked or how close your door is
sorry makes me mad
hope ya can get your car fixed soon and it all goes well.

Hahaha, oh now that brings back memories, my mates old beaten up VH, vs Hilux in a game of shopping trolly soccer.
Each car has a trolly, and a goal at either end of the car park, start of with the trolly in an odd position, first car to score wins. That was so much fun, you'll never believe.
Obviously this was done with no other cars in the dead of night when everything was closed.

speaking about people hitting their car does on your car.
i had 5 dints in a matter of a week from parking at work...so i moved...and got a tweaked alarm...yes its very sensative... i.e if someone with a loud car goes past it chirps or sets off....basically yanking at the door handle will make it chirp..no doubt another door hitting it will chirp/set off... i watch my car like an absolute HAWK! u have to if you want a nice straight car...sad in this society isnt

Maybe someone can help the guy out with a tip instead of a personal anecdote.

I am just glad I have found people that share my pain. It is like being part of a scratch survivors support group.
Thanks for sharing.... :D

You were driving a 206 eh? those things are damn tiny. Anyway things like that can be fixed don't fret so much.

If you havnt fixed it yet check out www.touchupguys.com.au these guys are pro they did my magna after i came back to a car park to find my car had been swipped only took off paint off the bumper. They buff down the area and repaint it looks perfect cant tell thats its been done at all. Plus id expect their cheaper than a full respray of the section. And they come to you. How can you loose :P sounds like a sales pitch but its not i seriously rate these guys.
After re-evaluating your problem i dunno if they can help as their mainly for plastic bumpers but you could ask em.

had these guys do some work on my lancer (front bumper skirt was scratched to hell) they did a fairly decent job for what they charged me ($100 + a few stone chips and other small scratch) they sanded the skirt down, painted it etc etc and after about a month the clear coat started to flake away.. same has happened to other people i know that have had jobs done by them..
i know if i had to get a bumper touched up again (especially if i had a paint that had a clear coat on it) i'd pay a bit more and get the whole thing done/resprayed professionally
