Hi everyone,

Did anyone see 'The Car Show' on nine today. They tested a manual 380 VRX and gave it huge raps.
'very European with great handling and build quality. You can tell when you drive this car that it is very well built.....'
They also praised its engine, and styling.
They also interviewed various people on the street, and asked their opinions. EVERYONE of them loved it!!
The reviewers only negatives were:
1. Lack of a split fold rear seat.
2. That the base model is quicker then the VRX and GT, he said they really should have a little more go to justify their sporty intentions. (here's hoping for that mivec on series 2 VRX and GT:)
3. Lastly I think was to do with lack of reach adjustable steering (but correct me if anyone else seen it, as I might have mucked that one up).

Anyway I think was a great review, and he urged people looking at Mazda 6's, Falcons, and various other cars to take this one for a test drive.

I also read another article ( I am trying to find what motoring site had it so I can put a link in) that stated that MMAL already had some stuff approved for the series 2 which is currently being readied. Apparently these updates will be aimed at adding more 'Wow' factor, and getting safety to a level where it matches or exceeds imports, and betters all other locals. This included upgraded safety with curtain airbags for front and rear, updated traction control with a electronic stability control, 6 speed manual for VRX, and mivec for the GT and VRX which allegedly will bump it over the 200kw mark. Apparently the series 2 will add more to VRX and GT to justify the sporty image?? Apparently these items were held back so they could be launched on the series 2 to take the shine off new Camry and Commodore. The same article stated that MMAL (and other manufacturers) had been a little surpised with the just released improvements for BF Falcon including the fuel economy/power improvements, NVH improvements, and that 6 speed auto, and general leap in quality above other locals. But it claimed that Mitsubishi OZ was happy with its decision to hold back certain things from the current 380, and instead concentrate on getting quality to 'European levels' first.
Also the same article claimed that MMAL IS DEFINATELY looking at AWD and Ralliart options, but only if they can get sales of current 380 up to what they need.

All sounds promising.

All this sounds great, but it really is meaning less without a link to the article.

I'll be watching the thing on tv too... the one advantage of having a delayed telecast for time zones :D

And while I have no doubt that the 380 is that good, I'm always sceptic of these shows being just another advertising medium for MMAL... after all, these shows and the channels that show them are only out for a quick buck. Whether its a legit info show on cars or a plug-for-a-buck show usually has to be debated. Bit of a shame really, but I'll watch it and see how it looks.

It does seem a bit odd that the camry sportivos have been given variable valve timing technology in the VVTi engines for a while now and the vrx's and gt's have not. Surely variable valve timing is one of those things that a sporty car should come with these days!!

It's not like its particularly new technology ?!?

It's the cost of getting said technology here. Thats all it is.

It'll come

I saw it mentioned on the show yesterday but forgot about it today. While I'm glad to see the 380 get positive comments said about it, this is The Car Show we're talking about. I've never forgiven Glenn Ridge for absolutely praising the pants of the Kia Optima for it's great handling...etc

Well compared to the Hyundai Sonata... the 'other' re-hashed second gen Magna.... apparently the Optima handles reasonably well from the written tests I've seen on it. The last model Sonata by comparison, was a complete barking dog in the handling department.

meh, they don't have honest opions, they're paid to praise a car. top gear is where it's at.

Damn, I'm getting more and more impressed by the 380, I just wish they had told us the reasons behind everything....glad to see they are packing some decent punch for the new (S2 380).

Is this the same stupid show where they compared a HSV, a WRX, a Mini and what not around a track by having the driver over-steer every corner?

Nope, that's Ch10's DRIVE. Really clever isn't it, they're trying to get the fastest lap so they powerslide every corner...
I actually find DRIVE better than The Car Show, but that's saying getting shot is better than being hanged. SBS are telecasting TopGear next month so that's something to look forward too.

Unfortunately alot of the car shows just have limp wristers who can't drive and can't tell their arsehole from their earhole. No, it's not jealousy, none of that bull****, sit down, watch it and you'll be laughing from the bull**** that spews forth. Now if you want a guy who can drive, watch that Tiff Needle show (that's not it's name). THAT guy can drive, hell, he can drift a stock M5! The guy can actually adjust it mid-corner drifting! Now THAT's a car show!

Don't even bother with that limp wristed overweight ****head who can't drive for **** and oversteers and slides out of every corner...the guys just a wanker.

Needell's on 5th Gear. I've been downloading that show for a few years now, that and TopGear.

I think I've watched The Car Show a couple of times, they talked about how brilliant some Renault car was...and all they looked at was the power, and the fuel consumption. Yeah, what a fantastic analysis of a car...
