the same problem that heaps of other ppl are experiencing... it kinda revs momentarily when going from 2-3, like it changes gears too soon or somethin. I dunno its hard to xplain, its driving me crazy tho whenever i wanna go for a long distance drive (which is a lot). And i'm just wanting some opinions on whether i should just put up with it, or pay the $1200 to get a new computer put in. Either those options, or i'm gonna ditch the magna and buy a second hand late model camry, at least that's bulletproof.
ps. don't shoot me, i love magnas!

your kidding!! the d light works??
hahah i thought thats just how they made it!!!
and as for the auto.....
When i drive sensibly it shudders or has weird gear changes...
In other words the car wants to be thrashed...
Mitsi told me to get a complete gear box oil change....

I thought that too until my mum brought home her Solara with a working D light.
Im thinkin mines done that many km's that it's probably worth my while just buying a whole new gearbox... cause it goes like a dream besides the gearbox problem

my auto likes to shift into neutral (with gear still in D) at times. it's hard to tell when but it doesn't do it very often, just occasionally. but it's irritating as hell cos you have to either step on the gas a couple of times to wake it up or shift into N and back to D again. mitsu told me to get the trans flushed, which i did. but......... problem's still there. :(
p.s. mine's a 99 TH advance with roughly over 100k's. pretty young gearbox to exhibit such behaviour eh?
when you say dropping from Drive to neutral...
do you meen jerkiness?
as in your driving but sometimes it just seems to slip??
Not for long just like under a second???
cause thats what happens to mine...

naa.. not jerkiness. but yea, when i'm driving, the gear lever is still in D but the cog slips into neutral by itself. it can happen whether or not i am stepping on the accelerator. and it remains in neutral for a pretty long time. prob 10 secs or so? cos usually i just trash the accelerator to wake it up or shift to N and back to D again.

matt69, nah i wouldnt buy a new gearbox thingo, if its not doing damage to the engine then dont worry about it. And by the way cars last for ages, 153 000 km's isn't that much, as u said it was mainly highway drives so i bet your engine still has plently of k's left in it :D :D :D :D

OOHHHHKKK,
I know im a little late in this topic but being a fellow 2.4 Auto owner (we are a rare breed :D) I can almost 99% gaurantee you if you were to have your gearbox serviced this will solve your problem. I had a simular problem myself.
Take your car to your mechanic and have him service it for you with GENUINE Mitsubishi Oil (they are very fussy and will cause problems if not the correct oil, or too much or too little) and have the filter replaced at the same time.
This should fix the gearbox problem cold.
Ive had my magna 2 months now and the auto is a bit rough sometimes but its still okay, doesnt go to neutral etc etc.....Im PRETTY sure that the transmission service hasnt been done. When you say get the transmission service done at Mitsubishi, what kinda difference did it make to the quality of the shifts?? Alot smoother?? I just want to do everything to prolong this cars life. Ive gone from a headache Audi, problem prone Mercedes to a Magna....So im HOPING it will last for a while!!!!!
