I am doing an install for a friend and have a choice of 2 sets of 6x9 speakers for Magna. Would you choose JL Audio TR690 or use the Eclipse units from the Ralliart for rear fill? I'd rather stick with this size to save making more pods, parcel shelves etc. They will be amplified by a Pioneer 6100F amp.
Thanks..

Depending on the condition of the JL's I would go them...

Haven't had enough experience with the eclipse speakers really, so I would lean to the JL's...
The JL's are very loud, very american sounding with plenty of bass in a hit-you-around-the-head way. More SPL oriented, and a good choice for a system with no sub.
The Eclipse speakers would be alot more natural sounding with a flatter response curve. These would be more of an SQ speaker I would imagine after hearing Eclipse systems. I think I would want a sub with these.
In the middle would be JBL's.... Audiobahn would be at the bassier end too, but those Audiobahn baskets worry me... dunno if they would fit in the stock holes without at least an MDF spacer.
It's only rear fill, I have pioneer TS-A6955 3-ways in my parcel and they crank hard.
Seriously, the pioneers will be fine for the job... you can pick up a pair for cheap from Repco as they have just taken on Pioneer distribution nation-wide and they have specials on.
If you already have the Eclipses, save the $$$ and just use them amped up. At least you know they will fit nice.

Mmmm - There is a sub in the Magna also. I had a play last night and it appears the JL's may be orientated for those without a sub as the Eclipses weren't so "boomy" as the JL's were. I was going to amp the front only (bridged 4 channel amp) and leave the rears off the deck.

I would have to say eclipse... it is very hard to find a nicer speaker. the eclipse 6x9's my fiancee just got are the best 6x9's i have ever heard! they have enough deep bass to sound like the sub is on when its not, yet enough control to balance ou the right amount of mid and treble without distortion. even at very very high volumes.
Besides that, eclipse is owned by fujitsu, which is owned by toyota, so it must be good!

Thanks for your feedback guys.. I have decided to go with the Eclipse's. Installed some JL Audio splits in and they are as noisy as all hell. Very rough on the midrange side. It's almost like the midrange is coming from a horn speaker and the mid level is at -3!
Maybe i'll try some Cadence splits as i can't justify spending $600.00 on a pair for Eclipse's or Focals.

Yes, the Cadence's suprised me... good value for balanced performance.
But if you want Focals you dont have to spend $600. 165V2's are RRPing at $419, but if you want the TN52 tweets, then you get into the $600 range (165KP's).
The 165KF's have the lower TN47 tweeter, but same midbass driver as the 165KP's, and they are RRP'd at $529. Good compromise for most.
this might be a bit late, but i was in tonkins yeaterday looking for front splits. the guy recommended some focals for 270 (RRP 300). they were 6.5" and he said he had put them in magnas before. i dont know the product code, but they were black. so they arent the really nice yellow ones or anything, but he recommended them over the alpine SD's of the same price, and everything else in the store for the money. so i think i will get them if i dont just get jaycars.

Yes, i was there yesterday also. The sales guy i spoke to couldn't say "These will sound better in your car then these" etc. It's a bit hard to try different speakers in your car without it costing you a fortune.
agreed, i think this guy just ment they sounded the best in the shop. i guess thats all you really have to go by most of the time
