View Full Version : Central locking issue - have to turn the key really hard

It's not really bad or anything, but my central locking doesn't work as well as it should be. Basically, when I turn the key in the lock to open the door, it won't open unless I really twist it further than what you normally would have to and hold it there for half a second. Admittedly the central locking system is 13 years old since it came with the car new, but was wondering if anyone knew of this happening to any other cars? I'm not overly fussed because I want to get remote central locking anyway, but if anyone knows what the problem is feel free to tell me.

I'd be guessing the s/w in your key lock is getting a bit sick.

Is trying to do it from the passenger side door the same?
If not, why don't you just try squirting some WD40 or similar (like graphite powder), using the straw on the can nozzle into the lock itself to see if it is not just dried out. See if that eases the problem.

Yeah the passenger side is exactly the same. Does it with all doors, so I think it's more to do with the central locking system as opposed to the individual door lock.

The central door actulator maybe on it's way out, go to you local Holden dealer and get a new one. My Uncle had VP Berlina and it did the same and just bought a new actulator and BINGO it work like new. By the way he saw a light and BOUGHT A MAGNA:badgrin: ...
BUT i think the vp's are the better of the commodores.:rofleek:

if it is the central locking itself, it may pay to replace all of the solinoids, if you are armed with some know-how, you can pay the hole central locking kit on ebay for $20 - $50.
Look here for some http://search.ebay.com.au//search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=central+locking
one of these is what i know have in my TN, fitted myself. But if you already have all the wiring and such installed it would be even easier to install the solinoids themselves.
