Alright this one has me stuffed.
I have just dropped an engine into the red Elante and everything is good except for this strange metallic rattling noise when the car warms up.
Even weirder - put your foot on the clutch and it goes away.
I thought at first I might not have lined the clutch plate up, but the noise would be there even when the car is cold, so I doubt that is the problem.
Any thoughts?
I thought it may be the release bearing, but that seems to be a squeal more so than a ratlle (well on the Triton anyways).
sounds like the thrust bearing.

Yep what matt just said.. haha beat me too it..
My dad has a similar problem in his pajero, hes taken it apart a couple of times and replaced some bearings, but it still rattles.... :doubt:

Thanks people :)
I am hoping it isnt the thrust/release bearing because that means pull the box out again.
The engine + box is only temporary until I put my brand new block + rebuilt box in :(
Release bearings normally dont sound like this does, but it is possible. Hell it's a Magna of course it's strange :bowrofl:

Things expand when they get warmer so that might give you a clue as to what it could be. maybe something rubbing ?
I dont know anything about gearboxes lol

The clutch noise is gone it was the pivot on the clutch fork, it needed some grease.
The funny part is what has happened now - see my other thread :bowrofl:
