Hey all I'm new to this forum and wondered if anyone could give me some advice. I own a 92 TR Magna, manual with EFI. I've got a problem with the car making a weird shuddering on acceleration. I've had it to a mechanic who has no idea what could be causing it. The following things have been done or replaced:

1. spark plugs
2. leads
3. distributor cap
4. rotor
5. oxygen sensor
6. fuel filter
7. injectors have been cleaned

Any help would be very much appreciated because I'm at my wits end trying to find out what is wrong with my car!

Engine mounts?
Transmission oil?
Broken Drivetrain?
Could be quite a few things, i say go to a different mechanic :P.

Whereabouts in NSW are you? If you're in the Penrith/Windsor area I can recommend a few mechanics to take it to.

Yeah - maybe time for a different mechanic. (new eyes to look at the problem often helps)
My bet would be engine mounts.

my engine mounts are virtually non existant and there's no shudder under accelaration.

engine mounts shouldnt cause this problem. sounds like a ignition problem.. but who knows, it is a mitsu auto after all

Got a phone call back from the mechanic today, says he's been talking to a few guys and wants it back Wednesday. Wants to check a couple more sensors out and then go from there. I live in Armidale NSW, so no where near Windsor sorry. Will keep you all informed to what's happening. Thanks for the help :D

i got the same problem, i think its the transmission.. everything else has been checked with my car. Might just need a good tranny service.

90% sure u are wrong.

what could it be dude?.. mines been doin it for over a year now..

it shudders as i accelerate between 20is and 60.. its very slight, but can be felt by passangers.
Its not felt in the steering, just the whole car.

ive assumed its the transmission.. crappy thing

This im convinced is the transmission, how many k's has the car done? tranny have any other problems, such as O/D not working?

Theres also a trans sensor that might not be working.

Does it Rev out high when changing in low gears? (Usually the 40Kilometer Plate)

I know a good trans service does help.

I'm pretty sure it's not the engine mounts, it's not that kind of shudder. It's more like a slight chugging feeling.

The mechanic is going to have a look at a few more sensors next wednesday so I'll let you all know what he finds out. The car has done over 200 000 kms, so it could very likely be the transmission. Anyhow's will keep this updated as soon as I find out.

Ok mechanic now thinks it's the air flow sensor. Anyone have any idea how much one of those will set me back. Told him that I'll have to save up before I can get anything else done though. Since it's already cost me $270 for an oxy sensor that I didnt even need! Will update as I get things done.

Are there any other members where you are. If someone can swing a spanner and has the same engine do a swap to see if it fixes it, or see if your local wrecker will let you borrow one to check before you buy.

Sounds like this mech doesnt know whats wrong but is happy enough just to keep taking your hard earned redies off ya. :)

Guess what mine did that at times when I brought turned out to be the engine mounts as the fron one was totally rooted and the rear is spliting on me now as well. Since the fron engine mount was replaced it stopped the shuddering but now the engine just vibrates to much due to the rear mount.

the kinda shuddering you are talking about sounds exactly like mine and others on here.. id say that replacing the airflow sensor (MAF) is gonna cost u money and it wont fix the prob. Like ol' fart said, try to swap with someone for a day or something.

My shuddering was kinda noticable a while back but has started to lessen these days.. I dont think its buggered, or that its on its way out. Its just a crappy mitsu auto transmission.

Ill make a $50 bet that its got something to do with the transmission.. If its really bugging u get it serviced.. $180 or so. thatll get the fluid and filters changed.

It is the actual transmission delay'ing / and having trouble with the gears

Okay finally after the holiday season I have gotten more info on my car. I did take it to another mechanic and he's said that the problem could either be the air flow sensor/moniter or the ECU. Anyone have any ideas how much this will cost?

I got the exact same problem in my TR manual, very noticeable shudder by anyone in the car especially when in second.
i was told by a fairly reliable mechanic that i have a "hot spot" on my clutch that has developed from thrashing it, or possibly towing a much too heavy trailer. he said it shouldnt create any trouble in the short term but long turn ultimatley a new clutch and fly.
but if he's wrong and you can get yours fixed i'd love to know what exactly it was n how ta fix it
