Ya know Tufftr, it's hard to take you seriously with that avatar, I keep getting this image of a guy in a long raincoat hanging around outside a primary school :bowrofl:

He's right about the painting though. Keep it smooth from the base coat and sand it lightly with 1000 grit between coats to get a higher gloss finish. :)

Get yourself a can of "Penetrol" from the hardware store.

The best thing you can ever use to prime surfaces. Forget all the time you need to prep and sand etc. This just eliminates it all. It's what I used on the red centre strip on my dash and that's the one part that everyone comments on how good it looks.

Probably coz the rest is ****...but hey lol :P

Thanks guys just thought you might have used some sort of special upolstry paint as a guy said at Burson's that they have a can of upolstry primer paint in stock I might get that later when I'm ready to do it as I will get those parts at the wreckers to paint then replace them on the car.

As for the avartar I've seen one where he's licking his man boob.

I used White Knight Vinyl Guard on the vinyl trims. I'd recommend VHT Vinyl Dye over what I used. It is MUCH better. I just couldnt get it at the time.

I intend in painting my interior silver over the weekend, i have the faux wood trim in my Diamante, gonna sand that off and just use my base color as the primer, 2 or 3 layers with wet sanding should be enough to get a smooth finish, then 2-3 layers of clear to avoid scuffs and chips.

I'll post pics when done. If its really bad i'll go get the proper stuff to sand/prime/paint/clear. Seeing as the car is currently sitting awaiting turbos i dont mind the body panels and trim being out of the car for a week to redo it twice if necessary :D

Seems that there is a market for them (haven't paid attention to how much they go for though, or how much you can pick up a "standard" for)

All diamante's, regardless of trim level (just ES or LS for the 1g in the states) came with faux wood dash kits. And there's no aftermarket company that makes replacements so its either paint it or be stuck with the fake wood.

I assumed you were in Aus, where the woodgrain trim was only on the Veradas (maybe on SEs?). It's semi-popular to replace the standard trim with the "higher class" woodgrain trim.

Yeah, we only got wood grain in the US... and we all want something different... Funny how all you guys want what we have and all us yanks (though i'm actually not a yank, a migrated pommie) want what you guys have :D

There's little wing nuts on the back of the strip. You have to get up underneath the dash to get to them. So you can either a) fumble around and find them if you just want to do the strip. Or b) Pull the whole dash out (which isnt too hard...but is probably overkill unless you want to do the dash too)
