Hi Guys.
I have a starting issue with my 3.0 TE which has clocked 195,000km.
It began to hesitate a little during start ups for a week and now won't start at all.
Checked battery terminals, swapped battery, checked starter terminal and all seems ok.
The engine won't crank over at all, I just get this clicking sound.
Could it be a dead starter motor or a faulty fuel pump?
Some ideas would be great.
Great forum BTW.
Cheers

What are the chances of having 2 dead batteries?
just clicking when you turn the key is a good sign the battery is knackered!
Try getting a volt meter and reading what the voltage across the battery is and let us know.

If it dont crank at all it wont be the fuel pump.
Sounds like a dead starter moter. I'm not sure with the 3Ltr donk if you can get to it easily, if you can it should have a large terminal (going to the battery) and a smaller one on the starter. Short between the two with a screwdriver or the like. It'll spark so dont panic and make sure its in park. If it turns over your starter solenoid is stuffed, if it doesnt, and you've changed the battery etc then chances are your starter motor is dead. :)

The battery I tried came from my wifes 3.0 TS and is quite new.
Also tried the screwdriver between the + of the startermotor and earth, but all I got was a spark.
Any good sources for cheap startermotors?
mate double check your battery. i had the same prob a week ago on my TE.. the sound of the click click is quite loud...and i thought it was the starter motor.. quick buzz to nrma and they knew it was battery in a sec :) (i have a TE too).
edit* if it sounded a bit dodgy during the week, have you recently installed or tapped into any power supplies and perhaps left them running? boot lid light perhaps?

You changed Batteries, did you reset your Remotes???
Possibility the Security Feature is still on..

No not to earth, to the other terminal on the starter motor. it should have a little spade connector on it.

OK I had another play with the starter motor.
This time I took off the protective cover so I had good access at it.
With the ignition on, I connected the 2 terminals of the starter motor as Ol'fart suggested.
With the terminals connected what I am hearing is sound from the rear fuel pump but no cranking of the engine or starter motor.
Remote control works ok and also battery is fully charged.
Are there any fuses which can cause this?

Doesnt look good for the starter motor, rip her off and get her checked.
I assume you had it in park or nuetral when you did this.
When you short the two terminals you bypass everything and the starter should turn.

Yes, It was in park and the ignition was on.

I thought I would try a different tactic, so I had a friend turn the ignition while I was tapping on the starter with a hammer.
The engine turned slightly with each light tap so I bashed it a bit harder and BINGO she cranked over.
Works perfect now. :P
