1. I heard the Magna TE/TF from 96~99 should be designed better insulated against niose and vibration. I read this from NRMA's road testing report.

From what I experienced on my car, I got a strong accelerating sound especially when speed is below 70K/H, even I closed all the windows. At least I think it above average level.

I feel puzzled, is this normal? I'd like a quiet driving and make my family feel confortable on the road.

2. I feel accelerating is not very responsive. Especially, when I accelerate in front of red lights.
It is much softer that my previous 2L Toyota Camry. Is this soft accelerated feeling normarl for 3L V6 engine?

As this is my first experience on Magna. Ant comments is greatly apprecaited...

this is not normal, magnas are one of the quietest cars for its price range, also the acceleration before light depne on many htings, feeling soft could simply be that you transmission havent kick down a gear, os it could be just your transmission or your car, one thing i know is it goes much musch harder than a 2l camry

the nvh levels (noise, vibration and harshness) levels are very low. a lot of effort was put into this and compared to the other cars i've driven it worked well. i'm assuming you have the auto, so i can't comment on the acceleration softness, but my guess would be its your transmission. in my manual you slowly get it up to 3000rpm in first, then push the accelerator in hard and no-one will be saying it doesn't accelerate HARD.

Yes, It's auto and the mileage is about 170K.

I did a service a couple of weeks before. But didn't get any negative report of these signs from Mechanic.

Maybe not all mechanic can find the problem.

What should I do now? I do want these been fixed up, especially the loud acceleration sound?

i can concur with this... i had the 2L camry before the magna and it had nothing on my TF... maybe might be something to do with the tranny.

Yes, on my last service, I had service on the auto transmission:

#. Auto transmission filter
#. Auto transmission fluid replacement
#. Flush auto trans misson.

Will any of these services cause "transmission not kick down a gear"?

Cheers,

hd2002, the te-tfs got these invec-ii transmission which suppose to learn your driving style (im not a big fan coz whole family use the car and towing it gets erratic at times). However most of the times instead of the transmission learning, im trying to learn how the transmission works, therefore i know when it will down shift all that, sometimes say your doing 70km/h slightly uphill in a high gear, and you wanna beat the yellow, you really gotta put your foot down, after an initial lag it will kick down. the point of what im saying is drive around try observe when it will kick down. eg how much accelerator to use at what condition, the lag etc

Yes, I am totally agree.

But will the nosie I mentioned above have any relation to the auto transmission? or gear kick in?

Hi hd2002
I have the same engine/trans as you
The normal mode will be far less responsive than using T/Tronic because it has to search for "the right gear" when under increased load
The noise you're getting could be the 2-into-1 engine pipe, where the internal baffles can vibrate and break away from the welds. This can impede the flow of exhaust gas, also losing power.
Do you have any mods - Sports air filter, sports exhaust ?

Cheers Buddy

Barry,

Thank you very much.

I didnt have any mods on my Magna, just standard 1998 TF executive.

It looked like the loud sound only come out when I was accelerating.

How can I indentify the issues please?

Best way is to get with your local exhaust specialist and ask him to put it up on the hoist

Also check for leaking exhaust gasket

Cheers Barry
