Hi,
I have a friend who recently purchased a 1997 TF manual wagon, its a great car and all, but with 250,000ks the engine is starting to show the signs that its wearing out.
He was wondering if the 6G72 twin turbo, or NA out of a 3000GT/GTO would fit without to much hastle. He is also wondering if it was possible to do the engine coversion, would the 6 speed gear box somehow go in?
he has told me that his budget after purchase of say a front cut or engine+gearbox was 5-6K, would this be enough?
Or is he aiming to high  and just get the current engine Reco'd?
Thanks for your help in this matter!
Tim.

not in the average enthuisiest terms will it fit in hell, those gto engines fit the 2nd gen 6g72; 91-95; so do their gearboxes. 3rd gen 96--- and mirrors of 2nd gen ie gearbox throttle body and alot of other stuff on opposite sides.

As GTRICE said, wrong car. There's a couple of examples of the 2nd gens with the swap. Killbilly has essentilly the same engine and there's another person with a TT swapped over but I don't know if they're on this forum.
If you're after something hi po for the 3rd gen then find yourself a Mivec engine. 199kW of goodness that drops straight in. Unfortunately you might have a little fun with the flywheel etc. You'll probably need some form of EMS work done too.

You could put in the mivec version of the 6g72. Do a search there has been a few already done. It will fit physically with no real issue its just the electrics and gearbox that need to be changed.

Yeah thanks for the tip, might just have to look into the mivec engine, 199kw sounds good. All he's really after is to shock a few people (being a bit quicker than expected) but more than anything else he wants to be a bit differant, a magna with a whistle and a BOV would turn heads, but a bit more go over stock would be nice.
thanks for the help, keep the posts comin!!

Very nice, was the a final dollar figure on that conversion? or was it a little bit to much to tell :), how much does a front cut or say just the engine cost? where would be a recomended place to look?
Thanks again! Nice car by the way
