So anyway... I'm cruising past Strathfield -- see the sign, Clearance sale; up to 70% off.
You know then and there that its a bad idea to stop and look... but I do. So anyway, $540 later I got a 1200W 4ch BOSS amplifier, and 2x 12" Sony Xplod subwoofers.
The amp for $249 (rrp $299) 1x XS-L1220 12" sub, $128 (rrp $169) and 1x XS-L1221 sub, $128 (rrp $199)
Why do I have 2 different subs? Cos some store guys are 1 shovel short of diggin a hole. I went to Strathfield Joondalup, purchased it all there, but they only had 1 L1220, so they arranged for me to pick up another one at Leederville. I get there and they give me the L1221 - I say nothing and they wish me a good day.
Upside - I got a better sub for a seriously good price.
Downside - I have 2 different subs
Oh well, $150 total saving, its all good.

1220 - 800W
1221 - 1200W
Might have gotten the part number slightly wrong but the 1200W one is that hexagonal shape. Not round.

awwww.. there the brand new ones :D
actually theyve been out in the states for like 2 years now :(
so i see your problem! you have 2 different shaped subs  it wouldnt of been too bad if you had two of the same shaped ones :P
well, sell your 1220 for what you paid for it, and get anotehr 21 or sell the 21 and make profit when you buy the 20 :D

So anyway, I went back and exchanged the 1200W sub for the 800W sub I was supposed to get.
I couldnt think of anything nice to do with 2 odd subs.

1200W 4ch BOSS amplifier????
Good luck
one of my mates actually tested the '1000W' Boss amp and it puts out just under 50W RMS with massive amounts of distortion....
so you're gonna be lucky if you have 60 watts per sub...
the sony subs aren't too bad tho.
still, at that price, can't complain too much!!

I am going to go against the trend.. BA1000 gives 19WRMSx 4 @ 4 ohm ( 12.6volts ), the 50-60WRMSx 4 that people quote is @ 2ohm (14.4volt) + as D.J.Magna said bucket loads of distortion. boss 1200W $300 + 2x P5 12inch subs $200ea makes $700 all up. Australia has only got the crap HOP cone P5 woofers. We are still to get the aluminium version that might actually be able to push some db, might. For $700, would get Jaycar 2x 150WRMS ( 438WRMSx 1 @ 4 ohm ) for $335 and a JL15w0 (RRP$399ish)or Crossfire CF3 15 SVC(RRP$299). If bought in a package you can get the JL + the Jaycar for $600 ( even less with the crossfire ) and that will sound a lot better and go a lot louder than anything from sony. Just my opinion.

All i have to say is that hot4s did a review on entry level 15inch subs under $350 testing each with 300WRMS in a sealed box. They tested brands such as Orion, Axis, Signat, Sony ( the one that you have ) and a fusion. Out of the lot the sony recorded 133.6db, and was begining to get out of shape. The sony got the lowest reading of the lot with Orion, Axis and Signat all getting 134-136db and the fusion got 136.7db.
They went on to say that the sony would need a lot more power to make up the 2-3db gap and since you are running your 15 ( rated at 300WRMS) off the 360WRMSx 1 you would get 134.5db at the most. They also went on to say that the axis and orion where out of shape at this point and the signat could not take much more. However the fusion gave the impression that it was only just getting warmed up and could handle loads more power.
Ill say it to the day i die..... asian loud speakers just dont cut it again their american rivals.
Is that spaced ok?

I have one for muck around and they put out a a bit more than id say. Running 2x12" bridged its good. yes they are shit amps but they are good enough to run 2x12" reasonably loud :D
D.J.Magna
11-10-2003, 11:21 AM
i dunno about bridged but he is an installer who has his own SPL car, installed himself, so he knows what he is on about
150Db in the car, all done himself, i think its a fair call to say he knows his shit
he tested the amp and got less than 50W RMS per channel. so bridged yo'll get about 100-120 W RMS per sub.
not bad power so they'll sound ok, but the distortion could cause issues.
still, for the price, they do ok.

Sorry i admit Signat is german.... Audison ( italian ) also make sweet amps, however brands like fusion make their components in both the U.S and china, same with orion... i am refering to the quailaty stuff these brands make in the U.S.
