well i bought myself a set of blue undercar neons, and i have been reading around the forums about where people have mounted the front one, but cant find a real good description of where best to mount it.

So to the people with neons, where did you mount the front one?

Yeah I hear ya mate.
Mine is a 2nd Gen Magna and the front was a pain in the...

The Magna sure wasn't designed for neons lol

I found the front hard because I did not want the light source visable but if ya tuck it up too high you get too close to the Radiator or Exhaust :doubt:

Anyway, you can see below where I put mine (ignore the dirt).
Only problem is that it's not as bright as the side ones as it's slightly hidden. Also, I'm hoping that I dont hit anything as it's up inside/behind the bumper.

on a 3rd gen you can actually kinda just wedge it up in the bumper area. there was a strip of metal down the center - so its best to drop the neon bar down from the top (take your grill/headlights off if necessary). I will try to chase up a pic tomorrow. The back however.. i found was impossible to place anything up there :( (woohoo two now at the front :P).

led's suck ballz cos they are directional. if you want bright neons that are durable, import some street glow gold series neons. 9000v (with inverter included of course), and made from lexan instead of glass or plastic!! As used in fast and the furious :D deffinately getting a set of these on my new car. last time i checked they were around $350 imported from the USA.

You can actually get wide angle LED bars that do around 80 degrees of light so thats more then enough if you make that 80 degrees point to the road... whats the point of 360 light if at least 180 is pointing up and not visible... That and LED's are about 6 times brighter then neon. :D

i'd like you to show me an LED that is capable of being brighter than a 9000volt neon.

i'd like you to show me an LED that is capable of being brighter than a 9000volt neon.

a 9000v neon will eventually burn the neon gas and will get dimmer over time. An LED doesnt use a gas to emit light and so never gets dim, and hypothetically will be just as bright as it is today as it will be by the time the car its installed on is long since scrap metal.

That and an LED kit is a damn sight cheaper then a 9000v neon kit

And incidently, a 9000v Neon tube puts out 700 ANSI Lumens per linear foot of tube lighting. A single LED can put out 72 ANSI Lumens, and i'm guessing you can get a lot more then 10 LED's in a line per linear foot and so technically LED's ARE brighter, more durable, cheaper, and use a lot less wattage... If i ever get an underbody kit it'll be in LED's thank you very much :D

Well for the record, mine are LEDs - Wide Angle LEDs.
I'm happy with mine but I've got to admit that I don't have anything (other LEDs or Neons) to compare them with.
The front tubes are 36" and the side tubes are 48".
There are lots of LEDs in the tubes and all run off 12v.
And they are around $200 for the kit.
But the best thing I like is the remote and I get to choose which colour I want or have it cycle through them all.
I've attached some photos of my LEDs - keep in mind that these were taken in daylight under a carport (can't get my camera to "autofocus" at night :doubt: )

But when you get down to it, it doesn't matter if you have LEDs or Neons - both are just as illegal and ya never get to use them. :doubt:

.
And getting back on topic...
snr88 - Are you able to buy a replacement tube (to replace the broken one) or was it a kit?

i still think leds are way to directional, more a strip of light as opposed to lighting the entire ground under the car....

yer replacement tubes is gonna cost me $57, which includes postage!
