I'm interested in ripping the plastic speaker mount out of my front doors and cutting a nice little MDF board for it to sit in, like S_tim_ulate and many others have done...
What I'm really after is a template. Can I just trace out the plastic back board and cut away? Will it just screw in with drilltips?
I just tought I'd ask before I get right in there and stuff something up.
I'm also keen to aim the speaker up and back slightly. Any recommendations on doing this?
I couldn't find any of tim's super helpful tutorial-like threads, anyone got a link?
I'll be sealing the whole door with tape, dunamat and plastic, painting the MDF (it's 15mm I think, plenty solid), putting some more dynamat in and resetting the tweets. I'll post a few pics if I can find the digi.
Cheers guys.

P.s. It's a TF exec wagon for those that don't know.

Yeah it is as easy as a template. If you want to angle it you should get thicker MDF, say 16 or 18mm and cut it on the angle or sand it back. To be effective you only really need 6mm MDF so that should get the idea that you can angle it quite a fair way. I wouldn't overly stress about the angle though.
You cant really stuff anything up, the stock plastic screws out so you cant really break it. Give it a go and I hope all goes well. :D

Sweet, so it'll sit flat on the part of the door where the plastic backing is?
I'll definately post up.
Still searching for tim's door pics...
Cheers for the help Charisma

6mm seems a bit small doesn't it?

They are only mid bass drivers. If they where mounted in a box then yeah maybe they would need thicker MDF. The main reason why sub boxes are say 18mm MDF is to stop flexing from the sub. It will have a much higher pressure in that box and the box covers a large distance that needs to not flex.
In this case the mid's are being mounted on a baffle that is not that big in total volume with full deadening around and behind it. :D

Nah I know I'm just saying 6mm seems too thin, and that 10-12mm would probably be better.

I wonder whether you could just plaster the factory plastic mounts with that Sound Off stuff???
Cause apparantly that sets like cement and is pretty heavy... would it have the same effect as making a MDF baffle? It would have the weight and be pretty damn solid. And you could keep that stock angle which is pretty good!
Anybody tried this or think it would work? Cause I want to make some better MDF baffles but am struggling with what the best way to make that confounded angle is! If I could use the Sound Off stuff it would be a hell of a lot easier!!

Guys with the baffles, just trace out the plastic stock baffles making sure you allow for the indentations.
It is a $10 job and the results are huge.
Its all labour. All u need is a jigsaw and drill.
Peace
Tim
