View Full Version : Optimax extreme
just wondering if anyone is running the new Shell Optimax fuel and how widely available it is.
the optimax extreme is ment to be 100 octane and ethanol based.
let us know your thoughts/experiences from this stuff and also how it's priced compared to say... normal optimax.

Element has been running it apparently - ask him about it tomorrow if you're comming on the murwullimbah cruz (you're comming aren't ya?).
Like 98 ron in most 3rd gens - there won't be much if any benefit from the higher octane in a car which hasn't been tuned for it. Some studies I have seen have indicated that ethanol blended fuels are more efficeint (ie: better mileage) than non ethanol blended fuel of the same octane rating - based on that I'm now trialling an E10 blended 98ron fuel (available from freedom outlets in QLD) in my emanage tuned TJ auto...... so far so good.

Ethonal has less energy potential cause it's an alchol. It's got high octain but less energy per weight compared to petrol. Like Methonal you wont get anymore power on a stock engine by converting to Methonal but u give it the ability to hadle more power cause of the higher octain in it, eg/ more boost and/or compression.
On the LS1 forums there getting noticablly less milage out of it, but they can advance the timing a lot more. They are also making the air/fuel ratio ritchure cause it leans out the cars.

Interesting read in this document - not specifically regarding Shell Optimax extreme, but some surprising findings regarding E10 blended 98ron fuel Vs. Caltex Vortex 98, Shell Optimax and BP ultimate....
