just curious what ppl here has done with catylitic converters,

ive heard knocking out ur cat can cause more ofa restriction than stock cos its a bigger piper and the gas's dont rush out of it as quick ....... but then ive heardandseen ppl say it works ... anyone knocked out their cat? ( dont bother with the " knocking out ur cat is illegal cos we ALL know so shush)

Flowed cats ?... 200 bucks from phillcom who has these?

and standard? ..

im only really interested in what ppl have noticed that have extractors.

on a side note , apparently commodore cats are same as magna ones does that mean a commo highflo cat would bolt up to a magna to ?

If you've ever looked into a cat it should be obvious that a hollowed out cat will always flow better than a standard one. It will disrupt flow more than a straight piece of pipe though I guess.

You can fit up any cat to your car so long as the pipe diameters are the same. They're not car specific.

its what i read in zoom, the issue featuring booya , they said it can cause more restriction in some cases

if you want a cheapy hi-flo cat, use the supercharged calais cat...

my mate went to buy one, was told the calais ones already are :D

most cats are generic

i have one from phillcom and didnt notice any difference...i dont think you will notice it on a stock car. however if you were upgrading the exhaust youd wanna upgrade the cat anyway.

gutting the cat made the car sound yucky and isnt worth doing

I 'might' have gut the cat.
But my exhaust sounds farty at times now and is so much more louder.
Just invest in a hi flo one.

Ask an exhaust shop for a scrap Gen III cat converter, then ask them to open them up to accept 2.5" pipe, there 2.25" standard, that's whats done to mine. There already a high flowing cat.

Why are you bothering anyway? You wont gain anything noticable unless ur pumping out some big HP.

Thats what i was going to get done but didnt have enough time to on the day.
Im definitely not doing this again- so stupid. Plus the $10,000 fine here in SA.

You can get some hi flo cats that are around the $600 mark if you plan/have mass hp.

The EPA are going to love you if hollow the Cat.. Its a Big no-no.. You need a cat to stop your car emitiing Dangerous Gases if they suspect you have hollowed the Cat they can inspect your Vehicle and you are Screwed..

Go the High Flow..
sure it is a little bit more money but it is better then doing it the Dodgey Brothers way..

Gutting a cat will gain you an unnoticable 2-5hp with an exhaust note like that of a gutted cat... it'll get drilled into your head that your driving illegally :D

Hi-Flow, more expensive but still legal, so worth it if you really want the 2-5hp gain without the hassle of the law.

If, however, you dont have emissions testing like in some places here in the states, you just slap on a 2.5 inch 'test pipe' with no restrictions at all for a 3-6hp gain and a cleaner exhaust note.

The myth of no backpressure = less performance is argued all day long, the ONLY time you'll need 'backpressure' is pre turbo... you need to have enough gas flowing to a turbo for it to spool. If you're running an N/A car then ANY backpressure is hindering performance... at least it is on our little motors.

If you go a high flow cat, buy one with 200x holes per square inch, not 400. If you can only afford a 400hpsi 'high flow' cat, get an oversized on and flare the pipes to join it.

Example: Fit a 3" high flow cat to a 2.5" system. The larger cat reduces pressure across the filament and helps flow rates, although not as well as 200hpsi.

nothing like having no cat at all in the system :D quality pre-1986 car with no adr for emmisions... even though it now has an unleaded motor in it now

ok, enough being a smart ass...

yeah, dont gut it... big fines not worth the risk... a good designed exhaust with a good cat will be better and more legal than a gutted cat...
