The 4 pot on my TR is a little tired, so its getting the flick, what i wanna know, is can i put the V6 in it. i figured i'd need to replace g/box, computer, shafts, mounts ect. Has any one done it and is it worth it? should i buy a front cut? does the suspension need to be changed? how much?

and which V6 goes in a TR?
6g72 or 6g74 (assuming its of the right orintation)
Ask Killbilly, he's done it.

Dpack_1 - killbilly has done the DOHC conversion, the engine which is standard with your car ( im pretty sure it is anyway)
im just saying that as im not sure to weather science is keen on doing the SOHC conversion (standard V6 in the TR/TS models) or the DOHC conversion (the good kind:P)
and which V6 goes in a TR?
.....any one that goes fast lol.
if its the DOHC conversion you interested in, go to the 2nd gen section and check the DOHC information stickied within the ist few posts.
if its the SOHC conversion....ahh.....you could still ask KB.....but he's was already a 6.
might be harder seeing as yours is the 4.
u'll need an engineers certificate no matter wat v6 engine ur gonna install. both 3.0l v6 (DOHC & SOHC) will fit but ur gonna hav to get new engine mounts, and ecu. the original gearbox will be fine to use (from memory)
KB spent almost 8gs (again, from memory) doin the DOHC engine conversion

might actually work out better just buying a front cut.....and knowing someone with welding skills :)

holy crap it is too!
(just re read DOHC page in 2nd gen section)
its a shame science you dont already have the 6, could of been easy, but again, could buy the half cut and do it that way.
KB......ever thought of turboing the DOHC......mmmmm......over 250Fkw's :) :) :) :)
try 2800 ;)
oooops  damn, thats a bargain!- sorta.. might go and do it myself after i get off my P's thats if i dont get a new car b4 then

lol it's cool mate :D
I dont go in people's faces with details on the conversion so I dont expect ppl to remember.
TuffTR: Not turboing. You'll never get traction, it'd be a pointless venture.
I was considering the 3.5 swap, but I'm selling it back to nicem8 when he has the money, selling my car and getting something else.
It's time to move on for me.

Ask Killbilly, he's done it.
Nah, he's always had a V6.
Science, I4 to V6 - you might as well sell your car and get a 6. Car cheaper especially considering the age and great resale value of our cars. It's the same argument as an auto to manual conversion.

My bad, i thought KB went for 4 to 6...
And yeah, i'm twin turboing my diamante, with it all being pretty much bolt on for a 3000GT VR4 i couldnt not do it! Sure with 10:1 compression pistons i'll be making in excess of 300hp and 300ft/lbs of toruqe around the 2500rpm range... But i'm assuming that once they're in there this wont be a daily driver for me anymore!

thanks guys, thats been a great help, i didnt even know about the dohc motor... i think i would just do the single cammer, but i may still just put a more healthy (ie hotted up, bigger cam, better ports, up the comp ect..) 4 pot. i dont belive you need an engineers cert, as we have put V8s in early falcodores that had 6s standard, but opptional V8s, should be the same as a doing a magna (legal).

You will need one...as you'll have to move an engine mount.

In the case of the Falcodores, the engine would have probably been a drop in replacement, without needing to modify the engine mounts at all (That's just an assumption, I've never seen someone do a 6 cyl to V8 converion on a Falcodore).
The 2nd gen Magna however isn't as straightforward, the engine mounts has to be moved, which requires cutting off the existing ones and welding them to a different location, which means structural change, which means an engineers certificate (to be legal that is).
It would be wise to buy another car instead of wasting your time converting to a V6, or else just drop in another 4. Hence the reason I upgraded to a new car.
