Hey guy, just need a bit of advice i have a te 97 manual magna just wanted to know if i should put another started clutch in or a heavyer duty one and if its easyer to put on in your self or get some one else to do it???
unless u can machine the fly wheel and been around magna's engines and gearbox's u should just let some one else install it,
u dont want to get a really heavy duty one caz that will screw yur gearbox. get a daiken, they are cheaper then the stock one and they are stronger

I agree, I wouldnt do it yourself unless you know you can do it.
Just drop it off at your mechanics and rest easy, a gearbox in or out is a prick of a job.

I had the clutch replaced a few months ago and from what the clutch place told me it isnt the easiest of jobs to do. They said they had to lift the engine out of it! I replaced it with a standard one and it seems to be performing spot on. Cost was a major issue for me, all up the job was around $900... Not cheap by any means but i got 250000km out of the last one so i should be up for one at around 500000kms! :D
u dont HAVE to take the engine out,
they replaced my gearbox from underneath and my clutch , just a bit of a bi4tch of a job

dont just replace the clutch either, get the throw out bearing/thrust bearing aswell.
dont worry about the Heavy duty, they just wear out quicker.

From what im told there are the push type and the pull type. The pull type is the more expensive of the two but it also has a higher clamping force. My TF is right on the cusp of the change over too the pull type ( 11/97 ) I think the cost difference is around $200 for the kit.

My current clutch is a heaveir unit form PBR also costing $500. Not a bad clutch, it's not really heavy duty, it's smooth, light and bites a bit, but I'd estimate about 20-30% more bite than standard clutch. Although the take-up point is nice and low now. :D

Yeah just make sure you get the right clutch, the Magna clutch's are different to most other clutches (being different is so annoying!) being a pull-type clutch, and normally cost more than the mainstream push type clutches.

i just got quoted about 600 for a standard clutch from autobarn, and about 900 for a heavy duty. do't know what brand they were, possibly pbr.
