Are the antennas from Verada's electric? If so, do they just go up and down when on and off or can you control the height?

I would assume they use the same mechanism as the power antenna in the TJ Sports/VR-X in which case they go up to full height when the head unit is switched to radio, and retract completely when the HU is in any other mode or switched off. No height control.
But then I don't own a Verada so what would I know?

I can tell you that on the KE's the antenna goes up with the standard HU whenever its on (CD player or radio, silly I know, maybe a way around it - haven't bothered looking, but at least it does on ours thats how it is). Oh & there is a button on there that retracts the antenna to half its height.
You can't control the height completely, but basically its either up, down or in the middle :p
Have fun with your first luxury mod 8)
OK, for the ks which is the same for the ke onwards, the antenna comes up
when you turn the car on with the radio on or turn the HU on with the radio
selected, and goes down when you turn off the car or turn off the HU.
When the antenna is up, and you switch to cd or tape, the antenna stays
up. There is a button that you can press to only raise the antenna half way
up. This is recommended when travelling at high speeds.

Ha a little inside news, on a TJ if you ask there is a power antenna upgrade kit, brand new it's about $150 + GST if I remember right, this is what is in my car, it works off any headunit as far as I know, well works on my Eclipse and it aint stock.

what about if your car dont have elect antenna??
can i just go and ask for the Electric Antenna Kit for a TJ and expect to pay 150+gst?
Ben
I had mine replaced recently as the bit that pushes the antenna up and
pulls it down snapped in the motor. Can't remember how much it costed
me but it ain't no where near 500. I think it was less than 200.

I had to buy a new unit for my car cos I snapped the fscking thing (yes, I snapped an automatically retracting antenna on a bloody tree)... you can't just by the antenna and rope for the TJ onwards, you have to buy the whole damn antenna assembly. grrr
The point is, though, that it was around $130. I imagine the only hassle with hooking it up to a non-power antenna magna would be that you won't have the appropriate wires already run into the boot.
BTW, mine's hooked up to an after market JVC HU and works just fine.

FFS...
Just get a fully auto electric aerial from super cheap ($60) ground it to earth near the back of the car... run a constant power to one of the other pins...
Take out back seat... Poke a coat hanger under carpet to inside of center consol... wher you can pick up the constant power and also you can get the trigger wire from your HU.
Peace of pi$$.
Redav .... give me a hoy if you wanna do this... it is VERY easy.

Well actually you can buy the antenna and rope for a TJ. they are about $90......mmm some Mits dealers are shifty and rip people off good. As for super cheap, get what you pay for, the mits ones are very good and as it's a upgrade on most models the wiring is already there

You are not going to get a fully electric aerial for $90 from Mitsubishi...
He doesnt want an antenna and rope... he wants a fully auto (goes up and stops when the HU is turned on - and down when HU is turned off) aerial.
My TE does NOT have the wireing for a fully electric aerial...
My TH Sports doesnt either...
The option from the factory will include the cable to plug into the wireing harness under the dash.
I havent seen a spare plug or wires at the back Passenger side of the car that might be the wires.

Well first off the dude told me you could get it but he needed my VIN to be sure.. then after he checked it he reckoned they Mitsu stopped making just the antenna and rope available for <insert date here> and later models which was me.
Still.. $130 was actually cheaper than the 'generic' Super Cheap or Strathfield antennas I was quoted on, so I went genuine.
Yeah, I looked into it a while ago after some bastard bent mine flat when it was parked in the street... anyway, Skippers Mitsubishi, quoted me $180.

about the powerwiring
cos mine dont have the factory power outlet for the antenna, could i
-draw power from my amp in the boot
-or should i draw power from the HU
-or should i draw power direct from the battery
???

It dont matter mush Id think...
There are 2 power wires needed I recall.
The constant one and tehn the switched one.
You could runt he switched one from your amp maybe... this will make the antenna go up... (all it is doing is powering the relay and keeping it closed.... thus allowing the constant power to go to the motor.. Once you turn off the amp it will cause the relay to disconnect and thus break the power to the antenna motor and it will come back down...) there are a couple of connectors that allow the motor to be powered up or down.

New antenna mast (with rope inside) was $60 trade price from Mitsu... Not sure how much whole unit was to replace. If the mast/rope breaks you can keep the rest of the motor assembly etc... takes about half an hour to change over the new mast (bit quicker if the rope hasn't broken inside the main assembly.

This is all well and good.... but noone has the motorised ones..
The discussion is wether or not to buy a second hand Auto aerial from a wrecked Verada.
The question is how much is a new one from Mitsu...?
Not JUST the mast and cable... but you also need the motor and wiring.
I think that the money the wreckers want for the auto aerial is WAY TO HIGH... thus I said get an after market one.

$130 for a brand new genuine TJ unit (motor and mast) isn't that bad.

Shit I got ripped off again! I paid 180 plus to have my antenna in my old TH converted to an auto after some pricks decided to yank it out....

130 motor and mast, that is good they are 150+ so that is a good price, I will get our price for one as the 150+is RRP.
They are though a bugger to fit, so I have heard but I could not have a manual aerial. We have one in stock at work so I will rip the box apart and see what it comes with. and look at the instructions to put them in. Get back tonight with what is involved, our price as well if anyone is interested.
