Fellas,
I just installed my JVC MP3 deck into my TJ VRX and now the fog lamp fuse keeps blowing :!:
Not only the fog lamp wont work, but the park lights (front and rear) wont turn on...
What causes a fuse to blow? a short :?:
what's involved in finding the problem?
Who would be able to fix this... a car sparky? how much would they charge?
thanks people! ;)

too much current eg. amperage being drawn from the unit. try placing an inline fuse behind the radio.
what's involved in finding the problem? check your manual make sure the fog light fuses are correct and perhaps bump them up 5amps (at your own risk)
just on a side note 10amps does sound slightly too low for all those lights.

Update...
I think i know what's going on now... somehow I've wired my MP3 player to the car's 'dimmer' electricals...
... and when I turn the park lights on (i've misunderstood the problem to be related to the fog lamps) it blew the fuse...
i've removed the deck and everything is almost back to normal...
i think i'm lucky that i didn't cause any more serrious problem...
anyone know where I can get the audio system wiring colour scheme for my 2001 TJ VR-X?

Thanks for your help guys... :!: :!: :!:
Finally able to get the darn thing going after some major headaches trying to get console back in...
Apparently there is NO GROUND WIRE on the radio audio connector!?! How bizzare... let that be a lesson for young players
Dajaja: that link you gave me doesn't correspond to my '01 VRX's audio wiring... :? however I the note about the ANTENNA being the GROUND helped! THANKS!
I'll try to put a diagram together with wiring colour information for other people who are looking for the same information i was...
I has that on my new h/u
I had all the speakers connected, then i has 3 wires on the car and 3 on the h/u. So i found the ones with power coming through them, for contant power and acc power and the final wires together.
I was pissed off that my tail lights kept blowing. So i cut that other wire and now everythign works fine. I think its for stereos that arent always illuminated. So when its dark, you turn on your lights, it signals the h/u to illuminate.

No there is no ground wire in the factory wire harness; quite often stock head units ground via the mounting cage/chassis. Unfortunately using the factory illumination wire is a common mistake made. BTW replacing a fuse that keeps blowing with a larger sized one is pretty dodgy brothers

i did this to my jvc deck about 1 week asgo coz i connected the green with white stripe whichis illumination i think? to the ground and yeh thats wat happened, so anyway, i just ground it the the cable that used to griound the old deck, its just a thick white running to the floor under the centre console..........

What really got me ticked was that a continuity test showed that the illumination wires were GND (or very close to it) - which is NOT the case. If you do a resitance test, it'll read around 2ohms... my guess is it's going through the dash's rehostat dimmer...
