Its not carbi then, its EFI.

Check your compression, plugs, fuel pump (see if its noisy or not) and if they are all fine get the injectors cleaned and a service and tune up done.

Its hard to diagnose these sorts of problems with out being there and seeing it, and instead of just having a stab in dark at parts to replace. Its often cheaper to just take it to a mechanic and let them figure out what is wrong and either repair it yourself then or let them finnish it all.

PS: pumping the "gas" on a efi car doesn't effect it, all the "gas" does is open a valve to let air in, the MAF sensor then reads that more air is getting in and fuels for X amount of air. When starting a car the MAF isn't being used, its pretty much 50% duty regardless of throttle position.

I'd be pointing towards the fuel injectors

sounds kinda like a fuel delivery problem. You say you've replaced the fuel filter, so as TC said fuel pump is a possibility, as are injectors.

Could even be a bad batch of fuel, or a seriously blocked air filter.............

And I can guarantee that someone will tell you to 'reset the ECU' : aka disconnecting the battery for 10mins.
