hi all, got car serviced yesterday and i was told that soon my head gasket would need to be replaced. something about both front and back need to be done. they also said it would cost around $250 inc. labour.

does this sound right. they said it doesn't need to be done straight away as hardly any oil is coming out, should i still get it done asap???

thanks

I need mine replaced also on my TH. However i was told that they are cheap from mitsubishi ($30 or thereabouts). But i will be replacing it myself. Most of those quoted $250 would be for labour.

I got the rear rocker gasket cover replaced awhile back, $310 with a regular service. Something like $30 for the cover, mostly labour.

Replacing the rear rocker cover gasket is easy (had to do it recently)...especially if you can change the rear spark plugs...get a service manual (ie Gregorys) and have a go...I think that $310 is crazy...way overpriced...I would expect $100 max if I HAD to pay someone...
Cheers

ssoooo, i know, incredible thread minage...but hey, i sorted through 7 pages of useless crap to find this thread....god the search function is crap.

anyhows, so who's had a go at changing the head gasket? Mine's started to leak a little bit of oil (coupla drops on teh garage floor) kinda stuff.

You peeps are saying around $130 + labour?? How hard is it to do? How long it take?

yeah, sounds that way, coz rocker cover gaskets are $25-$35 each. But they can be changed while doing the spark plugs etc. :D Not that hard.

Also, there are front and rear rocker cover gaskets, and only one head gasket - correct me if i is wrong.
