Starting to see a few 380's around now, I think they are personally a very tidy mid sized car. Just finding it weird that I have hardly heard anyone refer to them as a '380'. Pretty much every person says the same thing 'hey look theres 1 of those new Magnas'. 'New Magnas' seems to be their popular unofficial name.
Probably take a while after 20 something years of the Magna to people calling it a new name. Be like Ford dropping the Falcon name...

Yeah it will take time for people to drop the name magna, but it will happen eventually, but it does'nt help when even magazines still refer to it as the new magna, doh!!!

Does anyone remember the TM being referred to as the "new Sigma" in 1985?

No they didn't because the TM looked NOTHING like a bloody GJ Sigma.

You know my thoughts on the Magna/380 family resemblance.

Its quite strange, because as we all know the Magna is named a Diamante in New Zealand, my observation although the Australian Magna and the New Zealand Diamante are largely the same car, for some reason the Magna in Australia seems to get more stick from people than the Diamante equivalent does in New Zealand.....?

New Zealand hold Chrysler/Mitsubishi in very high regard, higher than either brand was ever held in Australia.

The Diamante in the US isnt really regarded that highly either.

Oh there is absolutely no doubts about that! Kiwi's have been very good to Chrysler/Mitsubishi over the years. Its all very odd as Australians are not traditionally as loyal to Mitsubishi as kiwi's are in NZ.

The Diamante in NZ has always been held in high regard, where as in Australia, the Magna,is often looked to as a bit of a dog. Perhaps this may have something to do with a more staunch Ford and Holden following in oz?

Kiwi's love their Japanese cars, and NZ roads are loaded with Japanese cars, something you do not see in Australia, so perhaps this could have something to do with it too?

I think it also had a bit to do with NZ less strict rules on Imports. The Japanese companies could send on the hottest cars there without a worry, unlike here.

BTW the RT Chargers are held in Higher regard than the GTHOph3 over there.

I wonder if that was not part of there plan
distance the new car from magnas as the name
is not real strong
call the new car 380 and hopefully build up some strong sales
and following
then down the track 3/5 yrs they could bring the magna name back
The Magna 380
