There was a Diamante done in the usa, but that is the only one I know of, I think it is on the fastmagna site in the members gallery. It is like a purple colour.
Maybe there is an email address you could contact him on. ;)

Unless it is an unregestered car or a show car... you are not allowed to do this.
Bassically it means that in the event of an accident there is no way for them to open the doors..... thus illegal.

Well I inquired about doing it when I was getting my car repairedas I wanted to do it to my car... I shaved the mirrors off and was going to do the handels as well.

Dept of Transport in Brisbane said NO NO NO.

So I said DOH DOH DOH! :(

Your state may be different so Id suggest ringing MainRoads.

It is quite expensive to do this you know?

You need to have linier actuators on all four doors to pull on the release cable.... Linier actuaters are over $100 each... and this doesnt include the computer side of things to control them...
Some people I think hook them up to there alarm remote unit so when you unlock the door it also opens it... but remember that you have 4 doors so you need four seperate remote switch signals.

You will also probably want a remote override button some where.

I would suggest that you hook up a switch to either the boot key hole so when you turn it one way it opens the boot and if you turn it the other way it opens the boot and the doors. (put a micro switch on one side of the barrel so that when turned one way it is hit and turn on)

Or you could have the door open button on the lower lip of the boot once it is opened..... (you need this incase your remote control battery is flat.)

On the flat battery side of things....

You CANNOT get into your car if the battery is flat... (Unless you choose to leave the key lock on the door as well..... But this defeats the purpose of shaving tha handels if you leave a keyhole.... (which on a Magna is part of the Handle anyway... but can be remove and remounted in the panel)
I would expect that you would be looking at around $1500-$2000 to get it done and maybe a little cheaper if you did it your self...
Remember you will have to paint all four doors as well and that means either blending nito the doors or surrounding panels..

Good Luck

they are both register and driven

AWWW..but it doesnt mean its "legal". People have POD's and i think every state bar the NT :D its illegal to have one, YET, people still have pods ;)
its illegal to be lower than 100mm from the LOWEST point of your car, yet, i see wayyy tooo many that barely make 50mm, but its still registered and driven ;)

just cos it 'illegal' it doesnt mean that it cannot be driven and or registered ;)

Just because it's illegal doesnt mean you can't kill someone either Booya

There are laws for a reason

Maybe.... but some laws are retarded and should be broken...
like ... (Not being allowed to have sex with a 90yo rich woman and causing her to croke after she had changed her will to make you the sole benefactor..... Whats so WRONG about that.... damn police hasseling me... I should have waited a few months before sleeping with her..... said to much)

This law about the door handels....
If you are involved in an accident and your car is smashed up... then in most cases if the door is jamed it is jamed and you are going to have to cut it open anyway.
Worse case is if you have a small dingel or faint while driving... you are unconscience in the car and the people come to rescue you .. they wont be able to unlock/open the door cause there is no damn handle... The door may not be jammed or anything just locked/shut.....
So it could mean you DIE as a ruslt of not getting help as soon as possible.
Mind you if you have Airbags... you might be able to hook up a release to the airbag sensor... where in tha case of athe air bag being deployed the doors will automatically unlock and open.

Maybe they should be contested, not broken.

Because while they are still laws you will still be fined....

getting ur door handles filled is a big job cos u have to spray the doors again and if you dont colour match you will have a weird looking car. its something you would want to do when respraying the whole car.

oh and yer just cos people drive with these mods doesnt mean they are legal. :D have a good day sir

Can you get the silver bit on the door handle removed and colour coded to match the car ?

mat

ok u can get it done, but u must have a button outside the car in case of emergencies, that is easy to find, the guy with the celica has a button coming out at the top of the door near the glass window, u push it and the door pops open, doesnt look shabby either.
he also beleives it shouldnt be to hard to hook it up to the side mirrors

he said if anyone attempts this to be careful, because when u weld a plate on the door to cover the spot u took the door handle off, to much heat warps the door, so u have to do it slowly, and take the welder away for a few minutes for it to cool

as for taking the strips off and colour coding them im not sure?

Yes...
I removed mine so I could colourcode the door handels....
There is no reason that you couldnt paint the chrome bit...
It involves TOTAL removal of the door handels and the the locks ...
the fronts are a PAIN to remove..
Once you have remove the door handels remove the spring loaded section that is at the back of the handels..
Then gentle extend them fully open.... Under the hinged part of the handel are two tabs of the chrome bit that are folded over to keep it in place...
Simply unfold them and push the tabs through to the outside of the handle..
then slide the chrome piece TOWARDS the hinged end so that the far end un locks from its held position...
To put them back on simply do all this in reverse..

BTW so people with "Black" inserts WANT Chrome... So before painting maybe ask if some one wants to swap you....

Hey im getting my door handles shaved as we speak but not sure on exact price as am getting boot shaved and custom paint job and few little things at same time but when i had a quote from a custom shop on the central coast they said $200 a door would be minimum....magna have a more complicated lock than some other cars so probably looking at $1000-$1200 for all doors being shaved. As for not being able to get into you car it depends on how u get it done. Some cars pop doors open when u unlock them...others have a little button u push near the window seal that pops them open after u unlock...all depends also where your getting it done.

As I was reading this, Im thinking in the back of my mind..."$100 says whoever posted in this thread has less than 10 posts".

I was not wrong.

Also, WHY do new people think that the OP and other posters would still be sitting around waiting for info on this topic 4 YEARS LATER! :bowrofl:

ALways the same story- people always get flamed for "not using the search button", then when they do, they get flamed for digging up old threads- sometimes you just can't win!!

i wanted to do it to mine two weeks ago before it got painted. spoke to engineer and he said doesnt matter what you do there is no way you can engineer shaved handles.. if you could i would of done it but u cant..

The law on it is u need to be able to open the car from the outside in the event of an accident.
