Anyways heres a pic.

Whats this hose do? it broke when I was trying to take it off to get the cover off.

Also what I did was, take off the rocker cover, take the gasket out, put the silastic inside the railing where the gasket goes, put the gasket back on the cover.
Did the same for that plastic bit at the end where the timing belt is, then put it all back on.

Now did i put the silastic in the right part? I know stupid to ask now but im sure i did it right.

For some reason Ive been thinking the silastic goes on the outside of the gasket, so the silasic joins the gasket to the bit the gasket touches on the bottom

I know someone here understands me lol, cheers.

the hose u broke is the PCV hose, it sucks the gases out produced by the engine to prevent a pressure build up also is a saftey device in case an explosion occures the valve closes, just replace the hose.

As for the gasket u should clean inside the rocker cover valley where the gaskets goes, then place the gasket in side the valley and smear silastic on the gasket

oright, lets just say the gasket has a top and bottom. (duh, but for this purpose ill call it top and bottom)

The top of the gasket goes into the valley of the rocker cover, then the bottom of the gasket touches the cylinder head.

So your saying the silastic should go on the bottom of gasket and get squeshed agasint the cylinder head?

Because I put the silastic ontop of the gasket in the valley and the gasket is touching straight onto the cylinder head (No silastic here)

Correct, putting silastic in the valley as well wont hurt either. Normlly it seals by its wedge shape being pushed up into the groove, but when in doubt put it on both sides, just not too much or it gets squeezed out and gets in everywhere. :D

Oh, because i ONLY put the silastic in the valley between the gasket and the rocker cover.

I havnt put any silastic between the gasket and the cyliner head.
So time to take the cover off again, should the silastic go all the way around because in the workshop manual it looks like they say to only put the silastic at the rubber bit on the end.

What do people normally do, all the way around? Thanks. :P

A thin smear all the way round to keep the oil in.

Really it shouldnt be necessary, but show me an astron that dont leak oil at the rocker cover and I'll show you an astron with no oil.

Silastic on, not too thick.
